About page SEO means making your company easy to identify: its name, purpose, leadership, history, offerings and real operating footprint. Start with plain facts. Support them with relevant links and Organization structured data that matches the visible page. People should understand which company they're dealing with, and search engines should have fewer conflicting details to interpret.

I'm Brenden House. I run Searchmaxxed, an SEO and AI SEO agency, where connecting company facts to the right people, services and evidence forms part of our work.

## In summary

- State the company name, category and audience before the founder story.
- Separate brands, legal entities and products when those names differ.
- Describe genuine locations and markets without implying offices that don't exist.
- Match structured data to visible facts and existing company profiles.
- Keep the page useful for people. Google requires no special AI schema.

## Does an About page help SEO and AI search?

An About page helps visitors understand who's behind a website and gives search engines explicit information about the organisation. It supports trust and identification. It also gives visitors routes into your products, services and leadership pages, rather than leaving them at the end of a company story.

Google's [people-first content guidance](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/fundamentals/creating-helpful-content) asks whether a site provides background about its publisher, including links to an About page. That matters for credibility. Google's term E-E-A-T means experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trustworthiness, but Google says E-E-A-T itself isn't a specific ranking factor.

For AI search, distinguish identification from recommendation. An accurate company description helps answer who you are; recommending you for a buyer's problem requires evidence about what you offer.

The distinction matters commercially. A software company can have a clear About page while its integration pages still fail to explain whether its product fits a procurement team's requirements.

At Searchmaxxed, we connect those pages rather than asking the About page to carry every search the business wants to win. Our [entity SEO guide](https://www.searchmaxxed.com/research/entity-seo) covers the wider relationships between a company, its people and its products.

## What company information should an About page include?

An About page should identify the company, explain its work and name the people responsible for it. Then add history and supporting evidence. For an enterprise organisation, those basics need enough detail to distinguish the parent company, trading brands and individual products without making readers untangle them.

| Information | What to state | What to check first |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Name | Public brand and legal name where relevant | Is this a brand, subsidiary or legal entity? |
| Offering | Products or services in familiar category language | Does the description match current delivery? |
| Audience | The organisations or users the offering serves | Does the product support the claimed use? |
| History | Founding, launch and major changes, clearly labelled | Are these different events? |
| Leadership | Current names, roles and relevant experience | Who still holds each role? |
| Locations | Real facilities, offices and markets, separately described | Is it a physical presence or a service market? |
| Proof | Relevant certifications, research or approved case material | Does the evidence cover this entity and offering? |
| Contact | A clear route to the appropriate team | Does that route still work? |

Put the facts first. A mission statement can explain why the company exists, but it shouldn't replace a description of what someone can buy or use today.

For Searchmaxxed, the category is SEO and AI SEO. Our services include technical SEO, GEO, AEO and LLM SEO, rather than an unnamed promise to help companies grow through unspecified digital work.

The names of the people matter. Our founder is Brenden House, and the [founder page](https://www.searchmaxxed.com/people/brenden) explains his background and role rather than leaving a portrait to do the introduction.

### How should you describe founding dates, ownership and locations?

Label each event precisely. The year a legal entity incorporated can differ from the year a product launched, and neither automatically describes when an acquired brand began trading.

Keep those dates separate. A company timeline can show the relationship without turning the founder's earlier experience into extra years of company history on the About page.

Location needs the same care. For a manufacturer, distinguish the head office from production facilities and distributors; for SaaS, distinguish customer markets from offices and data-hosting regions.

Public-sector bodies need accurate relationships too. Explain the organisation's remit and sponsoring body where relevant, instead of treating every related department as another name for the same organisation.

Searchmaxxed's entity mapping covers legal and trading names, former names, parent relationships and operating locations. That work establishes which facts belong together before we change the copy.

## How do you write an About page people and AI can understand?

Write a direct introduction that names the company, its category and the people it serves, then explain the details underneath. Make the relationships explicit. Separate the company from its product when a buyer could reasonably mistake one for the other after reading the first paragraph of your page.

Consider this hypothetical B2B SaaS example. It illustrates the writing approach, not a Searchmaxxed client or a completed project.

**Before:** “We help ambitious teams realise their potential through better ways of working”.

**After:** “Example Systems develops purchasing software for manufacturing companies. Its product, Example Purchasing, helps procurement teams manage supplier approvals and purchase orders”.

The second version gives you something concrete. A procurement lead can recognise the category, while a search engine has a company name, product name and stated relationship to interpret.

Add the history next. Explain the problem the founders wanted to solve, then connect that experience to the current product without inventing customer outcomes or unverified credentials.

Use real photographs where they help. A labelled leadership portrait or factory photograph can add context, but keep the company information in readable text alongside it.

Google's [AI features guidance](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/ai-features) recommends making important content available in textual form. A video can supplement the explanation; it shouldn't hold the only explanation of what the organisation does.

### What does a useful company-facts worksheet look like?

A company-facts worksheet records each claim, its supporting source and the person who can confirm it. It makes disagreements visible before publication. This is a practical way to apply Searchmaxxed's approach: establish a canonical fact record, then align the owned pages while preserving genuine differences between brands.

Use the worksheet before commissioning a rewrite:

| Fact | Source to check | Person to confirm | Where it belongs |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Public name and legal relationship | Current company records | Legal or company secretary | About copy and appropriate schema |
| Product name and function | Current product documentation | Product lead | Opening and product page |
| Founding and launch history | Company records and dated announcements | Founder or corporate affairs | Clearly labelled timeline |
| Leadership role | Current leadership record | People team or corporate affairs | About summary and biography |
| Physical operations | Verified facility details | Operations lead | Relevant location section |
| Certification scope | Current certificate and named holder | Compliance lead | Evidence section |
| Former name | Rebrand announcement and records | Brand lead | History and relevant profiles |

Keep the source beside the statement. “Certified” means little if the certificate belongs to a parent company and nobody has checked whether it covers the product under discussion today.

For Searchmaxxed, a factual summary can name Growth System, Agentic Search Engineering and Custom & Enterprise as managed packages. Their scope includes implementation and measurement. A public description should explain those services rather than imply that Searchmaxxed sells a software product someone operates without our team doing the work.

That distinction changes the copy. It also changes which category and relationship the structured data should describe.

## Which structured data belongs on an About page?

Use Organization structured data to describe the organisation, and optionally AboutPage to describe the page itself. They describe different things. Google's [Organization documentation](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/structured-data/organization) recommends putting company information on the homepage or a single page describing the organisation, such as its About page.

Google doesn't require it everywhere. The documentation also states that Organization has no required properties; add the relevant properties you can support rather than filling fields with guesses.

Structured data is a standard format for describing page content. JSON-LD is a common implementation format, and Schema.org supplies the vocabulary for the types and properties.

| Property or type | What it describes | Implementation note |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `Organization` | The company or organisation | Choose a more specific subtype when appropriate |
| `name`, `alternateName` | Public name and another genuine common name | Avoid turning keywords into invented brand names |
| `legalName` | Registered legal name | Add when relevant and different from `name` |
| `url`, `logo` | Official website and representative logo | Use accessible URLs |
| `description` | What the organisation does | Keep it consistent with visible copy |
| `foundingDate` | The organisation's founding date | Verify the event and date |
| `address`, `contactPoint` | Applicable address and contact details | Keep locations and contact purposes accurate |
| `sameAs` | Other pages identifying the organisation | Point to the correct company profiles |
| `AboutPage` | The page about the organisation | Optional Schema.org page type |
| `founder`, `parentOrganization` | Founder or parent relationship | Broader Schema.org properties, not Google's listed Organization fields |

The final distinction prevents overclaiming. A property can exist in Schema.org without Google documenting it as a field used by its Organization search feature.

This simplified JSON-LD example uses the fictional software company above:

```
{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@graph": [
    {
      "@type": "Organization",
      "@id": "https://example.com/#organization",
      "name": "Example Systems",
      "url": "https://example.com/",
      "description": "Example Systems develops purchasing software for manufacturing companies."
    },
    {
      "@type": "AboutPage",
      "@id": "https://example.com/about#webpage",
      "url": "https://example.com/about",
      "name": "About Example Systems",
      "mainEntity": {
        "@id": "https://example.com/#organization"
      }
    }
  ]
}
```

Replace the example details before use. The shared `@id` connects the About page to the organisation, rather than creating a separate company description with an unrelated identity each time.

[Schema.org defines AboutPage](https://schema.org/AboutPage) as an About page. Its [Organization vocabulary](https://schema.org/Organization) covers the wider relationships, including founders and parent organisations, when those relationships reflect the actual business.

Check existing markup before adding more. Searchmaxxed's schema work includes matching structured data to the page, so a new About block shouldn't contradict what the homepage already says about you.

Validate with Google's Rich Results Test and the Schema Markup Validator. Then inspect the live page. A successful validation checks the markup; it doesn't establish whether the company facts are true.

## What keywords, titles and internal links should you use?

Optimise the About page around the company name and a clear description of the business, with links to detailed product and service pages. Keep the page's job distinct. It can explain your category without becoming a duplicate sales page for every commercial keyword your marketing team wants the website to rank for.

For the hypothetical SaaS company, a useful title is “About Example Systems | Purchasing Software”. The H1 can be “About Example Systems”.

Write a useful meta description too. Explain the company and what visitors can learn, rather than promising information that only appears on a different page somewhere else on the site.

The practical checklist is short:

- Use a readable URL, such as `/about`.
- Give the page a descriptive title and clear main heading.
- Link to it from the main navigation or footer.
- Link out to relevant product pages, leadership biographies and evidence.
- Keep key facts in text, with descriptive alt text for meaningful images.
- Check crawl access, indexing settings and the canonical URL.
- Make the page usable on mobile and test its contact route.

These follow Google's [SEO starter guide](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/fundamentals/seo-starter-guide), rather than a separate set of rules for About pages. The same foundation supports AI visibility.

For Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Google requires an indexed page that can appear in Search with a snippet. Special AI markup adds no requirement. Our [AI search optimisation service](https://www.searchmaxxed.com/services/ai-search-optimization) combines these technical foundations with clear company information and the pages that answer customers' questions.

## How should the About page match third-party profiles?

Match the underlying facts across your About page and relevant existing profiles, while keeping different entities distinct. The descriptions needn't be identical. A professional profile can emphasise leadership, while a product review profile explains software, provided neither confuses the person, product and company behind the offering.

Start with the existing footprint. Check the company name, website, current leadership, category and history against the records people already encounter in search results and industry coverage.

For Example Systems, a product profile for Example Purchasing describes the software. It doesn't automatically identify the same entity as the company that develops it.

Treat `sameAs` accordingly. Google's examples include organisation profiles on social and review sites, but that doesn't make every page mentioning a company an appropriate identity link.

Historical reporting needs context too. An old announcement can truthfully describe the company before a rebrand; the current About page should explain what changed rather than erase its history.

Searchmaxxed's work connects plain website facts, matching structured data and outside sources that agree. If an AI answer already gives incorrect information, our guide to [fixing wrong AI answers](https://www.searchmaxxed.com/research/fixing-wrong-ai-answers) covers the correction process.

## Is Searchmaxxed right for your About page SEO?

Searchmaxxed fits when your About page needs to work alongside technical SEO, product pages and AI search optimisation. We implement the website work. Our managed packages include pages, schema, internal links and measurement, with direct access to the people doing the work rather than an account-manager relay.

For a venture-backed SaaS company, that can mean separating the business from its flagship product and connecting both to evidence a procurement team can inspect. For a manufacturer, the relationships differ. The task may involve explaining the parent brand, production operations and product families without making a distributor's capabilities sound like the manufacturer's own offering.

Growth System includes ongoing page releases and AI visibility tracking. Agentic Search Engineering adds comparison, industry and integration page families, alongside digital PR and qualified link campaigns. Custom & Enterprise can include multiple markets, dedicated engineering and original first-party research.

| Searchmaxxed is a good fit if | Look elsewhere if |
| --- | --- |
| You need company facts connected to technical SEO and product pages | You only need a standalone copy edit |
| You want implementation across pages, schema and internal links | You want strategy advice with no changes to your site |
| You need ongoing search measurement and improvements | Your team already handles implementation and measurement |

An About page cannot replace missing company evidence. Legal relationships, product capabilities and certification scope still need confirmation from the people who own those facts inside your organisation.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do you write an About Us page?

Start with the company name, what it does and who it serves, then add current leadership, relevant history and evidence that supports the description. Give readers a next step. Link them to the product, service or contact page that answers the question they came with.

### How long should an About page be for SEO?

Write enough to explain the organisation. Google says it has no preferred word count, so a target length shouldn't replace checking whether the company description answers the visitor's actual questions.

### Should the About page target service keywords?

Include service terms where they describe the company, but let dedicated service pages explain those offers in depth. Keep the About page focused. Its main job is identifying the organisation behind those services.

### Does an About page need a physical address?

Include applicable, verified location details. Google recommends relevant Organization properties rather than requiring every field, so an invented office address has no place in the copy or structured data.

### Is AboutPage schema the same as Organization schema?

No, they describe different things. AboutPage describes the web page; Organization describes the business, and an identifier can connect the page to the company it discusses.

### Will updating the About page make ChatGPT recommend us?

An About-page edit alone cannot establish that outcome. It improves the information you publish, while recommendations also depend on the question, available evidence and the sources the AI system uses.

### How often should company information change?

Update company information when the facts change, including a rebrand, leadership appointment, acquisition or change in what the organisation offers. Check related pages together. Copy, markup and existing profiles can otherwise tell different stories about the same company.
