A brand SERP is the page Google shows when someone searches your company's name. Brand SERP management is the work of making that page, and the AI answers about your brand, accurate, current and convincing. Some of it is yours to control. That means your website, its titles, its sitelinks and the structured data behind them, all of which you can change this week. The rest comes from what other sites say about you. That covers the Knowledge Panel, review profiles, news, old press and the answers in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews. So you manage it in three layers. Own more of page one and give machines one clear set of facts about the company. Then change the independent record that sits around them.

I'm Brenden House, and I run Searchmaxxed, an SEO and AI SEO agency. I wrote this for marketing and growth leaders at enterprise, B2B SaaS, venture-backed, manufacturing and public-sector companies, where a lot rides on the name.

## In summary

Your brand SERP is the last thing a buyer, investor or job candidate checks before they email, call or book a meeting with you. Most of it is fixable. Almost none of it can be bought.

| What shows for your name | Who decides what it says | How you change it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Your website and sitelinks | You, through titles and site structure | Page titles, internal links, `noindex` on pages you don't want there |
| Knowledge Panel | Google, from facts across the web | Consistent facts, Organization schema, claim the panel, suggest edits |
| AI answers about your brand | ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Overviews | Fix the pages and profiles those answers draw on |
| Review profiles | Your customers and staff | More recent, genuine reviews and public replies |
| News and old press | Publishers | Newer coverage, publisher corrections, Google's refresh tool for dead pages |

- Search your name the way buyers do: the name alone, then with "reviews", "pricing", "careers" and "vs".
- Give every result a verdict (helping, hurting or missing) and fix the hurting ones before you touch anything else on the list.
- Google won't make or delete a Knowledge Panel on request. You earn one.
- AI answers repeat the sources they read. Change the sources and, over months rather than days, the answer follows.
- Legal removal is narrow. Outranking a bad result with good ones is the usual fix.

## What is a brand SERP?

A brand SERP is the search engine results page for your brand name. SERP stands for search engine results page. In marketing, it means everything Google returns for a search, and "branded search results" means the same thing for your name.

The term comes from Jason Barnard, who [says he coined it in 2012](https://kalicube.pro/methodologies/brand-serp) after his own name kept returning a cartoon character he'd once voiced. His point still holds. Google doesn't show your brand the way you describe it; it shows its own summary of what the web says about you.

In 2026 that summary has more than one form. There's the classic page of blue links with panels around it, and there's the AI Overview or AI Mode answer at the top. Then there's whatever ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Copilot says when someone asks what your company does. I treat all of them as one job. They draw on the same sources.

## What shows up when someone Googles your company?

A branded search usually returns your own site with sitelinks, then a mix of profiles, reviews, news and third-party pages. A Knowledge Panel and an AI answer may sit beside or above them. Google's confidence decides which appear.

| Element | What it is | Why it matters to a B2B buyer |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Homepage and sitelinks | Your top result, with shortcuts to inner pages underneath | Shows the buyer where to go: product, pricing, customers, security |
| Site name | The name Google prints above your result | A wrong or old name makes people doubt they've found you |
| Knowledge Panel | The fact box Google builds about an entity | Founders, logo, HQ and profiles, in Google's own voice |
| AI Overview or AI Mode | Google's written answer to the search | Often the first words a buyer reads about you |
| Review profiles | G2, Capterra, Trustpilot, Glassdoor and similar | Third-party proof, and the first place doubts show |
| Social profiles | LinkedIn, YouTube, X | Shows whether the company is active and current |
| News and press | Articles about funding, launches, leaders or incidents | Old stories can outlive the facts they report |
| People Also Ask | Questions Google expects people to have about you | Tells you what buyers wonder before they call |
| People also search for | Related searches Google suggests | Shows the follow-up checks, such as "reviews" or "pricing" |
| Ads | Paid results, sometimes from competitors bidding on your name | A rival can sit above you on your own name |

## Why does your brand SERP matter so much for enterprise and venture-backed companies?

Because everyone who matters searches your name before they act. Buyers check it after the shortlist and before the demo, and so do procurement teams, investors before a meeting, candidates before an interview and journalists.

Long sales cycles make it worse. A procurement lead might search you on day one and again in month four, just before the contract goes to legal. If page one shows an old layoff story, a 3.4 on Glassdoor and a rival's comparison page, they carry that version into the room.

Venture-backed companies have one more problem: speed. You rename, pivot, raise and hire faster than the web updates. Crunchbase still shows the old round and the Knowledge Panel shows the old logo. Meanwhile ChatGPT describes the product you sold two years ago. The brand SERP lags the company. Leave it unmanaged and the gap grows wider every quarter, while the company keeps moving.

## What can you control on your brand SERP, and what can't you?

You control your own site. You influence the Knowledge Panel and AI answers through facts, and you shape reviews and press only by earning new ones. Nobody can buy a Knowledge Panel or pay Google to remove a true article.

| Element | Control | The lever that works |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Title, description, site name | Direct | Clear page titles; [WebSite structured data](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/site-names) for the site name |
| Sitelinks | Indirect | Google picks them from your site structure and internal links |
| Organization facts (logo, name, profiles) | Indirect | Organization schema on the homepage, with `sameAs` links to your official profiles |
| Knowledge Panel | Limited | Claim it, then suggest edits with public URLs as proof |
| AI answers | Limited | Change the pages and profiles they quote |
| Your own profiles (LinkedIn, Crunchbase, YouTube) | Direct | Keep them current and consistent with your site |
| Reviews | None directly | Ask real customers and staff, and reply in public |
| News | None directly | New coverage, and corrections where a story is wrong |

Google is plain about [sitelinks](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/sitelinks). "At the moment, sitelinks are automated," it says. Its advice is informative page titles, a logical site structure, concise anchor text and no repetition. Want a sitelink gone? Google suggests removing the page or using `noindex`.

Organization structured data does more than most teams think. [Google says it](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/structured-data/organization) can help "disambiguate your organization in search results" and can influence which logo appears in Search and in your Knowledge Panel. With a common or shared name, I'd make it the first fix on the list, before any profile or press work.

## How do you manage your brand SERP, step by step?

Search your name like a buyer and grade every result. Then fix the owned results first, the facts second and the independent record third. Then check it again every month.

1. **Write your brand query set.** Start with the company name, the product names and the CEO's name, then add "reviews", "pricing", "careers", "security", "funding", "alternatives" and "vs [competitor]". Selling in Australia and the US? Check both.
2. **Capture each result page and save it.** Record Google, Bing, Google's AI Overview, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity for the same set. Save the date, because these pages move.
3. **Give every result a verdict: helping, hurting or missing.** A missing Knowledge Panel counts as a result too, and so does a competitor's comparison page ranking for your own name.
4. **Fix your own site.** Rewrite weak titles and give the about page a plain statement of who you are and what you sell today. Then add Organization and WebSite schema and tidy the internal links.
5. **Make the facts agree.** Your name, founding year, leaders, HQ, products and profiles should match on your site, LinkedIn, Crunchbase and every profile you control. Our [entity SEO guide](https://www.searchmaxxed.com/research/entity-seo) covers this, along with the Knowledge Panel, Wikipedia and Wikidata.
6. **Build pages for the follow-up searches.** "[Brand] reviews", "[brand] pricing", "[brand] security" and "[brand] vs [competitor]" all deserve a page of yours that ranks. Otherwise someone else writes that page.
7. **Work the independent record.** Ask current customers for reviews on the platform your buyers trust, and earn new coverage that says what the company does now.
8. **Check it monthly.** Results change and AI answers get rewritten, so compare each month to the last and to two or three competitors.

### A worked example: a venture-backed SaaS company after a rename

Say a 300-person B2B SaaS company renamed two years ago and raised a Series C last quarter. Its audit might look like this.

| Result for the new name | Verdict | Fix |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Homepage title still carries the pre-rename tagline | Hurting | New title and meta description; WebSite schema with the new name |
| Sitelinks: login, careers and a 2022 blog post | Hurting | Stronger internal links to product, customers and pricing; `noindex` the old post |
| Knowledge Panel shows the old logo | Hurting | Organization schema with the new logo; claim the panel and suggest the edit |
| ChatGPT describes the product line it dropped | Hurting | Update the about page, LinkedIn and Crunchbase so every source matches |
| G2 profile with no review in 18 months | Hurting | Ask recent customers for reviews; reply to the older critical ones |
| Funding story from a major tech outlet | Helping | Link to it from the newsroom so it keeps ranking |
| "[Brand] vs [competitor]" page written by the competitor | Hurting | Publish its own fair comparison page |

Notice what's missing: deleting anything. Seven results, seven fixes, and none of them asks Google to remove a page.

## How do you change what ChatGPT and other AI answers say about your brand?

Change the sources the AI answers read. ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews summarise pages about you, so the answer improves as those pages become accurate, recent and consistent.

Google is clear that its [own AI features](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/ai-features) use normal Search. For AI Overviews and AI Mode, a page must be "indexed and eligible to be shown in Google Search with a snippet". "There are no additional technical requirements." So the same work that fixes your brand SERP also feeds the AI answer above it.

The other engines lean hard on third-party profiles. Our own testing showed how hard:

Perplexity cited a review directory (Semrush Agencies, Clutch, DesignRush and the like) in 36 of 44 agency answers. ChatGPT did it in 20 and Claude in 15. One agency's Clutch profile had six reviews and was cited 20 times.

That panel ran on 29 September 2026. The lesson carries over to any category. A thin, dated profile on the review site your market uses can end up as the source an AI quotes about you.

Here's what I'd do for any brand:

- Ask each engine the same five questions every month: "What is [brand]?", "Is [brand] any good?", "[Brand] pricing", "[Brand] alternatives" and "[Brand] vs [competitor]".
- Write down each wrong fact and its source.
- Fix the sources you control first.
- Then ask again next month and judge the trend over a quarter, because AI answers vary from one run to the next.

For the unbranded side of this, getting named when buyers ask for a shortlist, see our guide on [how to rank in ChatGPT](https://www.searchmaxxed.com/research/how-to-rank-in-chatgpt).

## How do you deal with negative or outdated results?

Remove what is illegal or dead and correct what is wrong. Outrank what is true but unhelpful. Most fall in the last group.

| Situation | What works | Source |
| --- | --- | --- |
| The page is gone or has changed, but Google still shows the old version | Google's Refresh Outdated Content tool | [Google Search Help](https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/6349986?hl=en) |
| Content breaks the law or your rights (defamation, trademark, privacy) | Google's legal removal request, with the exact URLs | [Google Legal Help](https://support.google.com/legal/answer/3110420?hl=en) |
| A true story with an error in it | Ask the publisher for a correction or an update note | Your PR team |
| A true story that's out of date | New coverage, owned pages and profiles that outrank it | Your search and PR work |
| A wrong fact in the Knowledge Panel | Claim the panel, then suggest the edit with public URLs | [Google Knowledge Panel Help](https://support.google.com/knowledgepanel/answer/7534902?hl=en) |

Google's [help page for the refresh tool](https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/6349986?hl=en) says it applies when "content was deleted from a site but still comes up in Google Search results". It won't touch a live article.

On the Knowledge Panel, [Google says](https://support.google.com/knowledgepanel/answer/7534842?hl=en) its "current policy doesn't manually create or delete Knowledge Panels". Verified representatives can suggest edits, and Google says it reviews them "within a few days" and sends a resolution update by email.

Wikipedia has its own rules. If anyone is paid to edit a page about your company, [Wikipedia's policy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Paid-contribution_disclosure) says they "must disclose" it and follow its conflict of interest guideline. Propose changes on the talk page instead.

One thing I won't recommend: burying honest reviews or flooding the page with fake ones. Buyers notice, and so do the platforms.

## How do you measure brand SERP management?

Measure the page, the facts and the traffic on your name. Five numbers cover it, and a spreadsheet holds them all.

| Measure | How to get it | What good looks like |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Page-one results you own or that help you | Count your brand SERP each month | Rising, out of ten |
| Results that hurt you | Same count | Falling to zero |
| Knowledge Panel accuracy | Check each fact against your record | Every fact correct |
| AI answer accuracy | The five monthly questions, per engine | Fewer wrong facts each quarter |
| Brand search clicks and click-through rate | Google Search Console, filtered to your brand terms | Steady or rising |

The last row matters most. If more people search your name and click your result, the page is doing its job, whatever the rest of the report says. Monitoring tools can watch the AI side for you; our comparison of [AI visibility tools](https://www.searchmaxxed.com/research/ai-visibility-tools) covers the options.

## Where does Searchmaxxed fit?

Searchmaxxed is an SEO and AI SEO agency for enterprise, B2B SaaS, venture-backed, manufacturing and public-sector companies. Our [brand SERP management service](https://www.searchmaxxed.com/services/brand-serp-management) covers the whole page for your name: results, Knowledge Panel, AI answers, review profiles and old press. We treat it as one job.

We start with the audit above. We search your brand query set across Google, AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, then grade every result as helping, hurting or missing. The audit ranks every fix by what it's worth.

Then we build the fixes. That means titles, about and newsroom pages, comparison pages, pages for "[brand] reviews" and "[brand] pricing", Organization schema and internal links. Off your site, our plans include links and digital PR, so new coverage says what the company does today. Each month we re-check the page and the AI answers against competitors and report what moved.

| Package | Who it suits | What it includes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Growth System | A company growing in one or two markets | 30 page releases a month, work on up to 4 existing pages, one qualified link action, AI visibility tracking |
| Agentic Search Engineering | A crowded or national category | 50 page releases a month, comparison and industry pages, a monthly press release, digital PR and link campaigns, AI answer tracking across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and AI Overviews |
| Custom & Enterprise | Several brands, several markets or a large site | Dedicated engineering, custom reporting and original first-party research |

Here's how we do it. We build on a website you own, which we call the Agentic Website. AI agents pull your Search Console and GA4 data, read the Google results for your name and check what AI answers say about you. That feeds the Managed Search Loop, which shows which page, fix or piece of coverage should change the page most. We build it, check the live result and measure what moved. Off your site, the Off-Page Source Layer builds the links, digital PR and mentions AI answers draw on.

You own the site, repository, content and data from day one. If you'd rather start smaller, the AI SEO Audit takes five business days.

Searchmaxxed's work has generated more than A$10 million in revenue through search for its clients.

## Is Searchmaxxed right for you?

We're a good fit if you want the brand SERP fixed by the team that also runs your SEO and AI search. Every month, we build and ship. We're the wrong call if you want results hidden or reviews manufactured.

| Searchmaxxed is a good fit if | Look elsewhere if |
| --- | --- |
| Buyers, investors and candidates search your name before they act | Almost nobody searches your name yet |
| You want your website, Google results and AI answers fixed by one team | You only want to monitor mentions; a tool costs less |
| You've renamed, raised, pivoted or merged, and the web hasn't caught up | You need a legal takedown; that's a job for your lawyers |
| You want pages built and shipped each month, and to own them | You want true, negative coverage buried |
| You want direct access to the people doing the work | You want a crisis PR firm for this week's headline |

If you're in the right-hand column, a monitoring tool, a law firm or a crisis PR team will serve you better.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is a brand SERP?

A brand SERP is the results page Google shows for your brand or company name. It includes your website, sitelinks, the Knowledge Panel, review profiles, news, social profiles and, more and more often, an AI Overview.

### What is an example of a brand SERP?

Search any company's name and the page you get is its brand SERP. For a SaaS company, that's usually its homepage with sitelinks, LinkedIn, G2 or Capterra, a funding story and, if Google knows enough, a Knowledge Panel.

### How do I change what Google shows for my company name?

Fix what you own first: page titles, your about page, Organization schema and internal links. Then make your facts match on every profile you control. Claim your Knowledge Panel if one exists, and earn newer reviews and coverage from sources your buyers already read. Google rebuilds the page as they change.

### Can you remove negative results from Google?

Only in narrow cases. Google reviews legal removal requests and refreshes results for pages that no longer exist. A true article stays, so the usual fix is publishing and earning results that outrank it.

### How do I get a Knowledge Panel for my company?

You can't apply for one. Google builds a Knowledge Panel when it's confident about an entity, so make your facts consistent across your site, profiles and trusted third-party sources. Once one appears, claim it.

### How long does brand SERP management take?

Changes to your own site can show within weeks of Google recrawling. Knowledge Panels, review profiles and AI answers take longer, because they depend on other sites changing too. Judge them over a quarter, not a week.

### Is brand SERP management the same as online reputation management?

They overlap. Reputation management often focuses on negative content and crisis response. Brand SERP management covers the whole page and the AI answers too, including the parts that are missing rather than negative.

## What should you do next?

Search your company name today in Google, ChatGPT and Perplexity, and give every result a verdict: helping, hurting or missing. Then add "reviews", "pricing" and "vs" and do it again.
