Choose an AI-first platform when your main job is understanding and improving how answer engines describe your company to potential customers. Choose a combined SEO and AEO suite when keyword rankings, website health and AI answers need to sit together. Both approaches can work. The better fit depends on what your team already owns and who will act on the findings.

I'm Brenden House. I run Searchmaxxed, listed first below as the managed-service option. This comparison uses vendor documentation rather than hands-on accuracy testing.

## In summary

Evaluate Profound for dedicated AI search analysis and Conductor for combined SEO and AEO reporting.

| Your requirement | Option to evaluate |
| --- | --- |
| AI-first research, prompt discovery and answer analysis | Profound |
| SEO, technical monitoring, content and AEO together | Conductor |
| SEO and AI search implementation handled for you | Searchmaxxed |

Compare engines, regions, prompt controls, collection frequency and reporting access. Decide who will implement the findings before buying software.

## Profound vs Conductor: which approach fits your team?

Profound centres its offer on AI search insights and marketing workflows; Conductor combines AI visibility with its SEO, content and website-monitoring products. That's the useful starting distinction. Neither is just a mention counter.

AEO means answer engine optimisation: improving how your company appears in answers. GEO means generative engine optimisation. AI visibility tracking measures appearances in sampled answers; it doesn't itself change your website.

| Option | What you're buying | Suitable when |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Searchmaxxed | Managed SEO, AI SEO, GEO and AEO, including website implementation | You want pages and technical fixes delivered alongside measurement |
| Profound | AI search analysis, Prompt Volumes, Agent Analytics and marketing workflows | Your team wants to investigate AI answers and run the resulting work |
| Conductor | AEO and SEO reporting, content tools and website monitoring | Your enterprise team wants a shared platform across search disciplines |

The vendor descriptions come from [Profound's pricing page](https://www.tryprofound.com/pricing) and [Conductor's plan comparison](https://www.conductor.com/pricing/). Searchmaxxed is a service, not a third software platform.

Start with your existing tools. An established SEO team may want a dedicated AI analysis layer without replacing the systems already handling its keyword research and technical monitoring.

A manufacturer managing several product sites might prefer combined reporting. Different jobs, different choices.

## What does each platform track?

Both platforms track brand mentions, citations, sentiment and competitive presence in AI answers. Their wider product scope differs. Profound adds prompt-demand research and marketing workflows; Conductor puts AI reporting beside traditional SEO and site monitoring.

| Capability | Profound's published offer | Conductor's published offer |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Brand visibility | Visibility score, share of voice and average position | Brand mentions and competitive share of voice |
| Sources | Citation analysis by domain, page and source category | Mention and citation tracking, with cited sources |
| Brand description | Sentiment and FactCheck against your source of truth | Sentiment analysis linked to cited sources |
| Prompt discovery | Prompt Volumes, built from licensed conversations and modelling | Generated prompts informed by your business, personas, intent and search data |
| Website access | Agent Analytics and infrastructure integrations | AI bot reports within website monitoring |
| Content work | AI Marketer, Agents and Context Manager | Creator, Writing Assistant and Content Profiles |
| Broader search | AI-focused analysis and workflows | Keyword tracking, technical SEO reporting and website monitoring |

Sources: [Profound's Answer Engine Insights documentation](https://docs.tryprofound.com/answer-engine-insights/about), its pricing page and [Conductor's AI Search Performance page](https://www.conductor.com/platform/features/ai-search-performance/).

Separate mentions from citations. A mention names your company; a citation references a source, which might belong to you or someone else. They answer different questions.

For a SaaS company, a recommendation can cite an industry comparison rather than the product page. For a manufacturer, a technical document might earn citations without the answer recommending its products.

Keep both measures visible. Then decide whether the work concerns product positioning, source material or a missing comparison page.

## Which AI engines do Profound and Conductor cover?

Both vendors list ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Claude and Microsoft Copilot. The named extras differ. Profound's enterprise pricing table includes DeepSeek and Exa Search; Conductor's documentation includes Grok and separate ChatGPT modes.

| Engine or mode | Profound | Conductor |
| --- | --- | --- |
| ChatGPT | Listed | Auto and Search listed separately |
| Gemini and Perplexity | Listed | Listed |
| Google AI Overviews | Listed | Listed as Google AIO |
| Google AI Mode | Listed | Listed |
| Claude | Anthropic Claude listed | Claude Sonnet listed |
| Microsoft Copilot | Listed | Listed |
| Other named coverage | DeepSeek, Exa Search | Grok Auto |

Sources: [Profound's enterprise engine list](https://www.tryprofound.com/pricing) and [Conductor's AI Search FAQs](https://www.conductor.com/docs/intelligence/ai-search-faqs/). Confirm inclusion in your proposed package.

Count the modes carefully. An engine name alone doesn't specify whether the test uses web search, which model runs, or what regional settings apply to each answer.

Conductor distinguishes ChatGPT Auto from Search. Its documentation describes Auto as the default experience, which may search, while Search explicitly selects web search.

Bring your important questions to the demo. Ask the vendor to show the settings beside the answer, rather than treating every ChatGPT result as the same test.

## How do prompts and data collection differ?

Profound offers a separate prompt-demand dataset; Conductor generates tracking prompts around your business, audience and intent. Both approaches need relevant questions. Neither replaces knowing which products your company sells and where customers can buy them.

### Does Profound show real user prompts?

Profound says its [Prompt Volumes dataset](https://docs.tryprofound.com/prompt-volumes/about) uses licensed AI conversations, cleaning and probabilistic modelling. It's a research product. Its documentation names ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity as data sources.

Keep discovery separate from tracking. Answer Engine Insights runs configured prompts and analyses the resulting answers; Prompt Volumes helps you investigate what people ask.

That distinction matters in procurement. A large prompt dataset and a large monitored question set describe different things, so ask which access your proposed package includes before comparing offers.

### How does Conductor generate prompts?

Conductor's [tracking configuration](https://www.conductor.com/platform/features/ai-search-performance/ai-tracking-customization/) uses topics, personas, intent, brands and regions to generate prompts. Its [FAQs](https://www.conductor.com/docs/intelligence/ai-search-faqs/) also describe custom prompt lists. For a fully custom list that bypasses generation, Conductor says its representative can load your prompts, giving you a way to test matching questions.

The useful test is concrete. Can the configuration distinguish an engineer researching material compatibility from a procurement team comparing suppliers for the same manufacturing application?

Those questions deserve different pages. A single broad category prompt won't show which answer your company is missing.

### Is browser collection better than API collection?

Neither collection method alone proves that a platform's results match your customers' experience. Ask for the configuration and captured answer. Then assess whether that observation serves your measurement goal.

[Profound describes front-end browser collection](https://www.tryprofound.com/articles/profound-vs-conductor); [Conductor describes an API-first approach where available](https://www.conductor.com/docs/intelligence/ai-search-faqs/). These are their descriptions, not comparative accuracy findings from this review.

Compare the collected answer, its date, engine mode and location. Ask the vendor to explain the score calculation.

## What changes when you track Australia and the US?

Separate Australian and US tracking, and check prompt-demand coverage independently from answer collection. They aren't interchangeable. A platform can support regional answer tracking without providing equally deep demand research for that region.

Conductor's [location table](https://www.conductor.com/docs/intelligence/ai-search-faqs/) lists Australian English and US English with all its supported engines. Select location and language during setup. City and state tracking aren't available for Claude Sonnet, Google AI Mode or Microsoft Copilot.

Profound's enterprise offer lists custom regions and languages, so ask the sales team to show the Australian configuration for your proposed account. Its Prompt Volumes documentation says coverage is strongest in the US, UK and selected European markets.

Ask to see Australian coverage. Don't infer it from an engine list or a global dataset description, particularly when your product category uses language specific to Australian procurement.

For a company selling in both countries, keep product availability and local competitors explicit. Otherwise, a useful American recommendation can look like an Australian visibility win.

## How should you compare reporting and exports?

Read the definitions before comparing scores. The denominator matters. Profound's documented visibility percentage uses responses containing at least one brand, rather than every response collected.

Its [Answer Engine Insights guide](https://docs.tryprofound.com/answer-engine-insights/about) distinguishes that percentage from share of voice, which compares your brand with total brand mentions. Neither is a revenue figure.

Conductor makes another important distinction. Its [reporting FAQs](https://www.conductor.com/docs/intelligence/ai-search-faqs/) say each prompt displays the latest collected response within the selected period, rather than aggregated response text.

Check the dates underneath. Conductor also says shared collection can supply a newer answer when another account tracks the same prompt more frequently.

| Reporting requirement | Profound documentation | Conductor documentation |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Segment the results | Platforms, topics, tags, regions, languages and configured personas | Topics, prompts, brands, engines, regions, personas and intent |
| Inspect sources | Citation views and answer exports | Citation reporting and response-level analysis |
| Export or integrate | Enterprise lists CSV, JSON and API access | Data API access varies by plan; MCP and LLM apps are listed |
| Connect website performance | Agent Analytics and Google Analytics integration options | Google Analytics and Search Console; Adobe Analytics on selected plans |
| Control access | Enterprise SSO listed | SSO and role-based permissions depend on plan |

Sources: [Profound's reporting guide](https://docs.tryprofound.com/answer-engine-insights/interpret), both pricing pages and Conductor's AI Search Performance documentation.

Request a sample export. Your analyst should be able to follow a finding back to the underlying response without rebuilding the vendor's dashboard in a spreadsheet first.

For public-sector procurement, also request the current data-processing terms and access model. Put them in the contract.

## How do the current plans and trials compare?

Profound's brand pricing page currently shows Trial and Enterprise; Conductor lists Essentials, Growth and Enterprise. Both require scoped evaluation for enterprise buying. Compare the configuration in each current offer rather than monthly figures from older comparisons.

| Plan detail | Profound | Conductor |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Trial | 50 prompts run daily for 7 days | AI Search Performance page advertises a three-week trial |
| Trial engines | ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews | Confirm the engines enabled for your trial |
| Prompt control | Trial prompts cannot be customised; Enterprise prompts can | Generated prompts, plus custom lists loaded by a representative |
| Ongoing frequency | Enterprise lists daily tracking | Daily, weekly or monthly by topic |
| Usage model | Prompt tracking scope plus credits for marketing workflows | AI Response Credits depend on engine and tracking configuration |
| Trial reporting limit | Pricing table lists no history, exports or API | Confirm export and integration access for the trial |

Sources: [Profound pricing](https://www.tryprofound.com/pricing), [Conductor AI Search Performance](https://www.conductor.com/platform/features/ai-search-performance/) and [Conductor setup](https://www.conductor.com/docs/intelligence/ai-search-setup/).

The trial constraint matters. You can't run a matched custom-prompt comparison inside Profound's standard brand trial, so request a configured demonstration when evaluating the same questions across vendors.

Get the full configuration quoted. Include each market, language, engine mode, refresh schedule, data export and permission requirement, alongside any content or technical-monitoring products you intend to use.

## How should an enterprise team test them?

Use the same business questions and ask each vendor to carry a finding through to a specific website change. Keep the example realistic. Here's a demo worksheet for a hypothetical B2B SaaS company selling in Australia and the US.

| Test question | What the demo should reveal | What we'd build or fix at Searchmaxxed |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Which inventory platforms support multi-site manufacturers in Australia? | Non-brand recommendations and the sources behind them | An industry page explaining supported manufacturing workflows |
| Which inventory platforms support multi-site manufacturers in the US? | Regional differences in products and competitors | Market-specific product facts and supporting pages |
| Does [our product] integrate with [ERP]? | Accuracy of the integration answer and its cited URL | An integration page stating supported functions and limits |
| [Our product] vs [competitor] for batch traceability | Comparison coverage and reasons each product is recommended | A sourced comparison page with clear fit criteria |
| What documentation supports [our product]'s security controls? | Whether answers cite current, relevant evidence | Accessible security documentation and links from product pages |

These are proposed tests, not client results. Substitute your real products and only publish facts your specialists can support.

Then follow the evidence. Can you identify the source, inspect the relevant page, assign the change and compare later answers under the same settings?

Searchmaxxed's [AI search optimisation service](https://www.searchmaxxed.com/services/ai-search-optimization) covers that website work alongside technical SEO, structured data, content and internal links. A software purchase serves a different need.

## Is Searchmaxxed right for you?

Searchmaxxed fits enterprise, B2B SaaS, venture-backed, manufacturing and public-sector teams that want SEO and AI search implementation handled together. We build pages and fix websites. Tracking supports that work.

Our plans differ in the amount and kind of work included. Growth System includes AI visibility tracking with ongoing page releases; Agentic Search Engineering adds comparison, industry and integration page families, plus broader AI answer tracking.

Custom & Enterprise can include multiple markets, dedicated engineering, custom reporting and original first-party research. The scope follows your business. The site, repository, content and data belong to you, so the work remains yours even when you change how you manage search.

| We're a good fit when | Software alone may fit better when |
| --- | --- |
| You need product, industry and comparison pages built | Your internal team already ships those pages |
| Technical SEO problems need implementation | You already have engineering capacity for the fixes |
| You want search findings connected to ongoing website work | You mainly need another analysis or reporting tool |
| Your team needs direct access to the people delivering the work | Your requirement is a software licence for an established team |

We don't replace an enterprise software procurement exercise. If tracking is all you need, compare the tools on that basis rather than buying managed work you won't use.

## Frequently asked questions

### How does Profound work?

Profound runs prompts against answer engines and analyses the responses for brand visibility, citations, sentiment and competitive presence. Prompt Volumes is separate. It supports research into user questions rather than measuring your tracked answers.

### What is Conductor AEO?

Conductor AEO combines AI Search Performance with content tools, SEO intelligence and website monitoring. Its reporting covers mentions and citations. You can configure topics around audience, intent, engines and regions.

### How much does Profound AI cost per month?

[Profound's brand pricing page](https://www.tryprofound.com/pricing) lists a free trial and a custom Enterprise offer. Request the configured quote. Older monthly figures in comparison articles aren't the current brand offer used here.

### What are the main competitors of Profound?

Conductor is a relevant alternative when you want AI visibility alongside SEO reporting and website monitoring. Start with your required scope. A dedicated tracker, a combined suite and a managed service solve different problems.

### What are the reviews like for Profound?

This article reviews Profound's published product documentation, not customer-review sentiment or a hands-on test. It assigns no review score. Request references from teams with similar markets, reporting requirements and implementation capacity.

### Can you use Profound and Conductor together?

You can evaluate them for different roles, such as dedicated AI analysis alongside an existing SEO suite. Check for duplicated work first. Confirm integrations, reporting ownership and the reason to maintain each subscription.

### Which is better for Australian AI visibility tracking?

Compare the configured Australian coverage rather than choosing from a global feature list. Conductor documents Australian English tracking. For Profound, confirm the enterprise region setup and inspect Australian Prompt Volumes coverage separately.
