Aerospace and defence SEO makes your approved capabilities findable when engineers, procurement teams and prime contractors research suppliers. Start with the work you can describe publicly: manufacturing processes, supported equipment, quality credentials and application experience. Build searchable pages around those facts. Keep controlled technical data out of public content, and connect each page to a suitable enquiry route. The aim is a relevant request for quotation, not a busy blog about aircraft.

I'm Brenden House. I run Searchmaxxed, an SEO, AI SEO, GEO and AEO agency. For aerospace suppliers, we connect search research with capability pages, technical website fixes and enquiries your sales team can pursue.

## In summary

- Target the capability being sourced. “Aerospace machining supplier” needs a different answer from a maintenance or component-availability search.
- Establish public-release boundaries first. ITAR and Australia's Defence Export Controls affect what can be shared, including material sent to writers and software tools.
- Make credentials verifiable. State the certified entity, facility and scope rather than scattering certification badges across unrelated pages.
- Separate discovery from qualification. A useful public page starts the conversation; sensitive technical exchanges belong in your approved systems.
- Measure commercial progress. Track relevant enquiries and accepted opportunities alongside rankings and accurate mentions in AI answers.

## How do aerospace and defence buyers search for suppliers?

Aerospace supplier SEO should follow the sourcing task: a manufacturing capability, a component, maintenance support or evidence that a supplier fits the requirement. Start there. A broad “defence” page cannot explain every division, facility and service well enough for someone to decide whether to contact you about a requirement.

These are illustrative searches, not measured keyword volumes:

| Sourcing task | Example search | Page that answers it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Find a manufacturing process | Aerospace precision machining supplier | Process page with approved materials, quality evidence and enquiry details |
| Check a quality requirement | AS9100 certified machining supplier | Relevant capability page linked to current certification evidence |
| Source a component | Manufacturer and public part number | Accurate product or part-family page, where publication is authorised |
| Find maintenance support | Aircraft component repair provider | Supported equipment and maintenance, repair and overhaul service page |
| Research a subcontractor | Defence electronics manufacturing supplier | Capability page explaining manufacturing scope and commercial fit |
| Assess a prime contractor | Aerospace systems integration capability | Business-unit page showing its approved role and relevant evidence |

At Searchmaxxed, we compare these searches with your existing pages and sales priorities before proposing new content. The distinction matters. A manufacturer, distributor and original equipment manufacturer can appear for similar terms while offering quite different things to the person doing the buying.

US searches use “defense”; Australian searches use “defence”. Use the right spelling naturally. Separate country pages only when the offer, eligibility or supporting evidence differs, rather than duplicating every capability page to change a few words for Google.

Our [guide to SEO for government suppliers](https://www.searchmaxxed.com/research/seo-for-government-suppliers) covers procurement routes and public-sector buying. This article stays with aerospace capabilities, certifications and publication boundaries.

## What can a defence supplier publish without exposing controlled information?

Defence suppliers need a documented decision about what may be released publicly before SEO work uses technical material. Searchmaxxed works from approved content. Your export-control and security specialists decide whether particular information can be shared, with whom, through which systems and under what authority before we use it.

### What does ITAR mean for website content?

ITAR means the International Traffic in Arms Regulations. Its technical-data definition matters here. [22 CFR 120.33](https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.33) covers information required for activities including designing, producing, operating and maintaining defence articles, with drawings and photographs among its examples.

The same provision excludes “basic marketing information on function or purpose or general system descriptions of defense articles”. That distinction gives marketing teams something useful to work with. It does not make every brochure safe.

An approved description of your manufacturing service and a customer drawing are different source materials, even when both explain what the business can do. Keep them separate. Ask your specialist to classify uncertain material before sharing it with an agency, uploading it to an AI service or adding it to a website.

### What changes for Australian Defence Export Controls?

Australia's [Defence and Strategic Goods List](https://www.defence.gov.au/business-industry/exporting/export-controls-framework/defence-strategic-goods-list) identifies controlled goods, software and technology. It includes military and dual-use items. Defence Export Controls regulates relevant activities within and outside Australia, so a domestic supplier relationship alone does not settle whether information can be shared.

Defence's [export controls framework](https://www.defence.gov.au/business-industry/exporting/export-controls-framework) includes assessment of publishing and supply activities. Check the activity as well as the material. The applicable control, permission or exemption needs specialist assessment; publishing something online is not a shortcut to treating it as public-domain information afterwards.

Official sources checked: 28 October 2026 (AEST). These are content-planning boundaries, not export-control advice.

### What should stay out of the SEO handover?

Keep unapproved drawings, restricted specifications, customer-controlled documents and sensitive technical correspondence out of the SEO handover. Send approved extracts instead. The same boundary should cover document sharing, screenshots, image descriptions and prompts, because a harmless-looking draft can still carry information copied from a restricted source.

Searchmaxxed's role is to make the approved facts useful in search. We don't issue export permissions. Before work starts, agree the information we can receive and the publishing process your business requires, including any restrictions on tools or people involved.

## Which pages should an aerospace supplier build first?

Build capability pages first, supported by quality evidence, approved application pages and a clear enquiry route. Give each page a job. Searchmaxxed's [SEO services](https://www.searchmaxxed.com/services/seo) cover the research, writing, internal links and implementation needed to make that structure work without leaving development tasks with your marketing team.

| Page | What it should explain | What to avoid |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Manufacturing capability | Process, approved materials, relevant applications, inspection and traceability approach | Unapproved tolerances or performance figures copied from customer work |
| Product or part family | Your role, public identifiers, supported applications and availability enquiry | Implying OEM authorisation or interchangeability without evidence |
| Quality and certifications | Current credentials, legal entity, facility, scope and verification route | Applying one facility's certificate to the whole group |
| Maintenance service | Equipment supported and the repair or overhaul work actually offered | Suggesting every facility performs every service |
| Defence program or application | Approved involvement, work performed and current status | Naming a customer or platform without release permission |
| Supplier enquiry | Commercial contact details and the appropriate next conversation | Asking visitors to upload controlled drawings into an ordinary contact form |

A capability page is a public explanation of work your company can perform. It is not the technical data package.

For primes, connect business-unit pages to the capabilities each unit owns, rather than making visitors interpret a corporate structure before they can find the service. Suppliers need similar clarity. A subcontractor should say what it makes or supports without implying it holds the prime contract or owns the finished system being discussed publicly.

Program pages deserve particular care. Separate an existing, approved role from a market you hope to enter, and make historical work visibly historical when it no longer describes current capability.

## How should AS9100 and other credentials appear in search?

Show aerospace certifications as specific, current facts tied to the organisation and activities they cover. Let buyers verify them. Searchmaxxed can structure that evidence on your website, but certification claims must come from your quality team rather than a keyword list or competitor page.

[IAQG describes the 9100 standard](https://iaqg.org/standard/9100-qms-requirements-for-aviation-space-and-defense-organizations/) as quality-management requirements for aviation, space and defence organisations. Its [OASIS resource](https://iaqg.org/tools/oasis/) holds supplier certification and registration information under the IAQG scheme.

| Claim being considered | Evidence to check before publishing |
| --- | --- |
| AS9100 certification | Certified legal entity, facility, standard revision, scope, current status and verification reference |
| ISO 9001 certification | Current certificate and its exact organisational and activity scope |
| Customer or OEM approval | Written authority for the precise wording and any logo use |
| Testing capability | Whether work is performed in-house or through another provider, with approved scope |
| ITAR registration | Current registration facts and wording approved by your export-control team |

Keep registration and certification separate. Under [22 CFR 122.1](https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-122), registration does not confer export rights or privileges. An ITAR registration statement should not become a blanket “government approved” badge or a claim that every product can be exported to every customer.

These credentials belong to the supplier. Searchmaxxed makes no AS9100 certification claim.

## What would a useful capability page look like in practice?

A useful aerospace capability page lets a buyer recognise the work, verify relevant credentials and start a suitable conversation without requesting restricted material publicly. Consider a hypothetical contract manufacturer. It machines aerospace components, holds a relevant quality certificate and serves approved applications, but cannot publish customer drawings or identify certain defence customers by name.

This is a planning example, not a Searchmaxxed client result.

Its existing headline says “Engineering excellence for demanding industries”. That says very little. We'd replace it with the actual capability, then build the page from facts the manufacturer has authorised for public use rather than expanding the slogan.

| Page element | Proposed content for the hypothetical manufacturer |
| --- | --- |
| Page title | Aerospace precision machining, followed by the supplier's name |
| Opening answer | What the company machines, the approved material families and the kinds of work it accepts |
| Capability detail | Public process descriptions and approved inspection information |
| Quality evidence | Exact certificate scope, facility and a verification route |
| Application evidence | Authorised examples, or generic application categories where customer disclosure is restricted |
| Enquiry route | A commercial discussion first, followed by the supplier's approved technical exchange process |

The buyer learns whether to enquire. The drawing stays where it belongs.

### A release worksheet for your next capability page

Use this worksheet before commissioning the page, so the source material and publication boundaries are clear before anybody starts writing or building the finished page.

| Field | Record before release |
| --- | --- |
| Capability claim | Exact approved wording and the source document version |
| Responsible specialist | Engineering owner and quality reviewer, where relevant |
| Publication decision | Who cleared the material, when and for which public use |
| Customer permission | Permitted names, logos, application details and exclusions |
| Website copies | Main page, downloadable PDF, image captions, alt text and structured data |
| Enquiry handling | Information allowed in the public form and where technical exchanges move next |
| Maintenance trigger | Certificate renewal, changed capability, withdrawn permission or revised source document |

This is a proposed working template. It is not a legal checklist. It extends Searchmaxxed's normal page implementation into a useful agreement with your specialists about which facts can appear across the website and its supporting assets.

## How do you make technical content searchable without opening restricted files?

Put approved capability information into readable web pages and keep restricted files in systems designed for controlled access. Don't confuse indexing with security. A page marked noindex can still be visited directly; [Google's noindex guidance](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/block-indexing) describes removal from search results, not an access-control system.

A PDF can remain useful. Give its approved content a readable HTML home, with a clear revision date and a link to the current public document for procurement teams.

Our [technical SEO work](https://www.searchmaxxed.com/services/technical-seo) checks whether search engines can discover and read those public pages, then fixes the faults. That includes navigation and internal links, canonical URLs, redirects, XML sitemaps, mobile rendering and page speed. The scope stays public.

For large catalogues, we would check whether filters create duplicate URLs, whether discontinued items mislead buyers and whether important part families have useful landing pages. More URLs aren't automatically useful. A part-number page needs an accurate commercial purpose, not a copied specification attached to an enquiry button and a claim you cannot substantiate.

Keep schema consistent with visible content. Structured data describes the page to machines. It should not introduce extra certifications, customer relationships or technical details that your reviewers have not approved for the page visitors can actually read.

## Can AI answers recommend aerospace and defence suppliers?

AI search optimisation makes approved supplier facts easier to find, understand and cite when an engine assembles an answer. The foundations still matter. [Google says](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/ai-features) there are no additional requirements or special optimisations needed for AI Overviews or AI Mode beyond its existing SEO guidance.

Google's guidance applies to its own products rather than every AI system.

Searchmaxxed includes GEO and AEO in its managed search plans. GEO means generative engine optimisation; AEO means answer engine optimisation. For a supplier, the practical work is clear capability descriptions, consistent business identity, visible supporting evidence and answers that say exactly which services are available.

Accuracy belongs beside visibility. An AI answer naming your company for a certification held by another group business is not a result worth celebrating, even if the link works.

We check mentions, citations and factual descriptions across the agreed questions and engines, then use the findings to improve your public pages and supporting evidence. Keep those observations separate from enquiries. A citation records a source being used; it does not show that a procurement team contacted you or accepted your business as a supplier.

## How should aerospace and defence SEO be measured?

Measure aerospace and defence SEO through relevant discovery, qualified enquiries and sales progress, with each stage reported separately. Agree the definitions first. Searchmaxxed uses Search Console and GA4 alongside sales feedback to distinguish a page attracting attention from a capability that brings the right people into conversation.

| Stage | Useful measure | Important separation |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Search discovery | Relevant non-brand queries reaching capability pages | Recruitment and general aviation interest versus sourcing searches |
| AI visibility | Accurate mentions and linked citations | A mention versus a website visit |
| Enquiry | Requests matching a capability your business offers | Commercial enquiries versus spam and supplier pitches |
| Sales progress | Accepted opportunities and qualification discussions | Pipeline versus awarded work |
| Commercial outcome | Search-attributed or search-assisted revenue where evidence supports it | Recorded contribution versus assumptions about the whole contract |

An RFQ is a request for quotation. Define what qualifies as one. Your sales team should help distinguish a usable requirement from an incomplete form, while keeping sensitive content out of analytics events and general reporting tools.

## Is Searchmaxxed right for your aerospace or defence business?

Searchmaxxed is a fit when you need SEO and AI search work implemented, with your specialists supplying approved capability facts. You keep the technical authority. We handle search research, public pages, technical SEO, schema, internal links and measurement, with direct access to the people doing the work and no account-manager relay.

Compare the plans by the work your public website needs and the markets you want it to reach:

| Plan | Relevant scope for an aerospace or defence business |
| --- | --- |
| Growth System | Ongoing page releases, technical improvements, landing-page optimisation and AI visibility tracking |
| Agentic Search Engineering | Broader industry and comparison coverage, wider AI-answer tracking, digital PR and qualified link campaigns |
| Custom & Enterprise | Multiple markets, dedicated engineering, custom reporting and original first-party research where agreed |

You own the website, repository, content and data. That matters beyond the engagement. A manufacturer with changing capabilities needs to retain control of its pages and supporting evidence, rather than losing the website when a supplier relationship ends.

Searchmaxxed's work has generated more than A$10 million in revenue through search for its clients.

| Searchmaxxed is a good fit if | Look elsewhere if |
| --- | --- |
| Your capability pages hide what you can publicly supply | You need export-control advice or tender submissions |
| Your specialists can approve releasable capability facts | You can't release any useful capability information |
| You want SEO and AI answers handled by one team | You need a quality-system certifier |
| You want to own your site, repository, content and data | You want strategy advice with no changes to your site |

We are not your export-control adviser. We don't certify aerospace quality systems or take over tender submissions, and we can't replace the engineering knowledge needed to approve your technical claims.

If you cannot release useful capability information, settle that boundary before commissioning a broad content plan. Otherwise the work stalls. A practical starting scope is the public material you can support today, with further pages added as your specialists approve the underlying facts and evidence.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can defence contractors use SEO if their projects are confidential?

Yes, if useful capabilities can be described publicly. Start with approved services and credentials. Customer names and detailed project evidence are optional when your business can explain its work accurately without revealing information it has no authority to disclose.

### Does aerospace SEO replace supplier qualification?

No, SEO supports discovery and initial research. Qualification remains a separate process. Public pages should help a prospective customer decide whether to begin that process, rather than implying that appearing in search establishes acceptance as a supplier.

### Should we publish aerospace part numbers and specifications?

Publish only identifiers and details authorised for public release. Check the source first. A product page should distinguish what you manufacture, distribute or support, without implying compatibility or approval that your quality and commercial teams cannot substantiate.

### Should every AS9100-related keyword get its own page?

No, build pages around distinct capabilities and useful certification evidence. Avoid repetitive badge pages. A strong quality page can support several capability pages through relevant internal links, provided each claim stays within the current certificate's actual scope.

### Can we upload engineering documents to an AI writing tool?

Only after your organisation has approved that information, tool and sharing arrangement. Give us approved public extracts. An NDA alone does not decide whether the transfer is permitted under the rules your export-control and security specialists apply to that particular material.

### What affects the cost of aerospace and defence SEO?

Scope sets the cost. Large catalogues, several markets and substantial technical fixes require different work from improving an existing set of approved capability pages with current supporting evidence. Searchmaxxed quotes for the business and agreed work.

## Where should you start?

Start with your public website and the capability you most want customers to find. Keep restricted documents out of the enquiry. We'll discuss the pages, technical work and search coverage that would help the right buyers understand what your business can offer them.
