Investor relations SEO helps investors find a public company's official results, annual reports, presentations and share information through search. Start with the company's name and ticker, then give each investor task a clear destination. Keep financial statements intact. Improve the pages around them, with crawlable links and dated HTML summaries that match the approved disclosure. Publication follows the issuer's disclosure process, not the SEO calendar.

I'm Brenden House, founder of Searchmaxxed. We do SEO and AI SEO, including the technical work that helps search engines find and understand official company information.

## In summary

- Match branded investor searches to specific pages. An annual report needs a better destination than the corporate homepage.
- Keep the approved documents. Add useful HTML context rather than replacing filings with a marketing rewrite.
- For ASX issuers, respect the exchange's release sequence. For US issuers, establish which disclosure obligations apply before changing publication workflows.
- Check AI answers for the correct period and accounting basis, alongside whether they link to your official source.
- Measure successful investor tasks separately from sales leads. A report download and a product enquiry tell different stories.

## What makes investor relations SEO different from ordinary SEO?

Investor relations SEO improves access to disclosed facts, while commercial SEO helps people choose products and services. The same website can need both approaches.

Keep their purposes separate. Someone searching for your industrial software wants specifications and evidence that it solves a problem; someone searching for your results wants the approved financial record.

That distinction changes the work. An investor presentation page needs its publication date, reporting context and downloadable file, rather than a sales form blocking access to the document itself.

Searchmaxxed's [enterprise SEO service](https://www.searchmaxxed.com/services/enterprise-seo) covers implementation across complex sites, including templates, internal links and changes prepared for an internal engineering team to deploy. Your IR team retains the financial narrative. Legal retains disclosure decisions.

## Which searches should an IR website target?

An IR website should target the company's name or ticker alongside the investor task: share price, annual report, results, presentation, dividend or governance. Start with those searches.

Search Console shows the searches already reaching your site, while direct searches reveal whether investors meet the right page or an outdated document instead. Check Australia and the US separately.

Use a simple page map:

| Investor search | Useful destination | What belongs on it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Company name + investors | Investor relations hub | Company overview, ticker, exchange and routes to current materials |
| Company name + share price | Share information page | Licensed quote feed, exchange, currency, timestamp and any delay notice |
| Company name + annual report | Annual reports archive | Latest report, previous reporting periods and clearly labelled downloads |
| Company name + annual report + year | Individual report page | Reporting period, publication date, approved summary and complete report |
| Company name + investor presentation | Presentations archive | Current presentation, event date and dated historical versions |
| Company name + results | Results hub and period pages | Release, financial statements, presentation and webcast where available |
| Company name + governance | Governance section | Board, committee information and approved policies |

Use descriptive titles. “Company name annual report: year ended [date]” tells investors more than “Downloads”, without changing a word of the financial report it points to.

Keep the archive evergreen. Its child pages carry each reporting period, so next year's report has its own address rather than overwriting the previous year's historical record online.

The wider [brand SERP management work](https://www.searchmaxxed.com/research/brand-serp-management) connects this investor section to the company's identity across search results. Keep legal names, former names and tickers consistent.

## How do ASX and SEC disclosure rules affect SEO changes?

Disclosure rules govern what an issuer releases and when; SEO changes must fit that process. An accessible URL alone does not establish compliant public disclosure.

The jurisdictions differ. The table below summarises the relevant primary guidance. Issuer counsel must set the applicable release procedure for each company.

| Issue | ASX-listed entities | US issuers covered by Regulation FD |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Core obligation | Listing Rule 3.1 requires immediate disclosure of market-sensitive information to ASX, subject to its exceptions | Reg FD addresses selective disclosure of material nonpublic information to specified recipients |
| Release timing | Rule 15.7 generally requires ASX acknowledgment of market release before disclosure to others | Intentional covered disclosures require simultaneous public disclosure; non-intentional disclosures require prompt public disclosure |
| Website's role | Publish through the approved workflow after the required exchange release acknowledgment | Counsel assesses whether the website meets the SEC's recognised-channel and dissemination analysis |
| Important distinction | Dual-listed entities have a specific overseas-exchange exception under Rule 15.7.1 | Foreign private issuers are outside Reg FD's coverage; other obligations still need review |

[ASX Guidance Note 8](https://www.asx.com.au/documents/rules/gn08_continuous_disclosure.pdf) explains Listing Rule 3.1 and its exceptions. Its explanation of “immediately” is “promptly and without delay”.

The release acknowledgment matters. [Listing Rule 15.7](https://www.asx.com.au/documents/rules/Chapter15.pdf) requires acknowledgment that ASX has released the information, rather than merely confirmation that someone uploaded it.

For covered US issuers, the [SEC's Regulation FD release](https://www.sec.gov/rules-regulations/2000/08/selective-disclosure-insider-trading) distinguishes intentional and non-intentional selective disclosure. A US listing alone doesn't settle coverage.

The [SEC's company-websites guidance](https://www.sec.gov/files/rules/interp/2008/34-58288.pdf) considers recognised distribution channels, dissemination and reasonable time for market reaction. Search indexing cannot substitute for that analysis.

For Searchmaxxed, that creates a clear boundary. We can prepare page templates and search improvements, but your authorised IR and legal teams determine the financial wording and permission to release it.

## Should annual reports and investor presentations be PDFs or HTML?

Keep the official PDF and give it a useful HTML page. Google supports PDF indexing, so HTML solves navigation and context problems rather than making an unreadable format readable.

[Google's supported file types](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/indexable-file-types) include PDFs. A PDF can therefore be the search result itself, which makes its title, text and reporting period worth checking.

Different formats have different jobs:

| Format | Good use | Check before release |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Official PDF | Complete annual report or approved presentation | Searchable text, clear title, correct file and accessible reading order |
| HTML landing page | Explain the document and connect related materials | Date, period, approved summary and descriptive download link |
| Full HTML report | Read the report without downloading it | Same approved content, tables, notes and correction process |
| Image-only document | Original scanned material where necessary | Accessible text alternative and document quality review |

Keep summaries faithful. If a released statement distinguishes statutory profit from adjusted profit, an HTML summary must retain that distinction rather than presenting whichever number looks more attractive.

Treat canonicals with care. A canonical tells Google which version you prefer when pages contain duplicate or very similar content; it doesn't turn different documents into the same document.

Google supports [canonical HTTP headers for PDFs](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/consolidate-duplicate-urls). That can help equivalent HTML and PDF versions, but a short summary differs from a complete annual report.

Keep historical reports available. A redesign should preserve their addresses or redirect each document to its true replacement, rather than sending every old report to the latest results page.

## What technical SEO checks matter for an IR website?

IR website SEO needs crawlable documents, stable addresses, clear navigation and pages that work on mobile. Start by testing the route to a specific report.

Searchmaxxed's [technical SEO work](https://www.searchmaxxed.com/services/technical-seo) includes crawling, indexing, redirects, sitemaps and rendering. For an IR section, apply those checks to the hub and individual documents, including any separately hosted investor site.

Check the following before release:

- **Discovery:** ordinary links reach reports and presentations without relying entirely on dropdown filters or a search box.
- **Indexing:** intended public pages have appropriate index directives, canonical settings and successful server responses.
- **Sitemaps:** public URLs point to the intended versions, with meaningful modification dates.
- **Rendering:** essential text and links remain available when a quote widget or external document component fails.
- **Mobile and accessibility:** tables have headings, links describe their destinations, and keyboard users can reach downloads.
- **Performance:** test Core Web Vitals and page behaviour with the actual charts, consent controls and external feeds loaded.
- **Migration:** preserve report URLs and verify redirects, including links from older announcements and presentations.

Protect drafts separately. Google's [noindex guidance](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/block-indexing) explains search exclusion, but unpublished financial information belongs behind access controls rather than on a publicly reachable preview URL.

Keep structured data factual. Markup can identify the organisation and describe visible page content, but it must not introduce financial claims or dates absent from the approved page itself.

## How should public companies prepare for AI answers about their financials?

Give AI search tools clear, dated statements that preserve the reporting period and accounting basis. Then compare their answers with the released source, not with another summary.

AI SEO includes this work. Google says its [AI Overviews and AI Mode need no special optimisation or additional schema](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/ai-features); existing SEO foundations still apply.

Build each financial summary around explicit labels:

- Company and reporting entity.
- Period start and end.
- Currency and unit.
- Metric and accounting basis.
- Audited or unaudited status, where applicable.
- Publication date and direct source link.

Keep the labels together. A revenue figure without its currency or period becomes less useful the moment an answer engine extracts it from the surrounding paragraph or table.

Test questions investors would ask. Ask for the latest annual results, the reporting period and the source, then check whether the answer confuses historical performance with current guidance.

Record the full response. Keep the engine, question, date and cited URL, so later comparisons distinguish a changed answer from a changed question or a newly released reporting period.

Our AI-answer tracking covers ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI answers. For an IR engagement, we would agree factual checks with your IR team before interpreting a citation as progress.

## How would Searchmaxxed handle an investor-results release?

For an investor-results release, Searchmaxxed would prepare the search-facing pages against approved source material and your disclosure workflow. The financial approval remains with your authorised team.

Consider an ASX-listed manufacturer. Its annual report, results presentation and announcement exist; the task is making those materials easy to find without creating another version of the financial story.

This is a proposed approach. It illustrates how our implementation work fits an issuer's release process, rather than describing a past client engagement or a financial outcome we have achieved.

| Item | Searchmaxxed's proposed work | Issuer decision | Acceptance check |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Annual report page | Prepare dated HTML context and link to the approved PDF | IR confirms wording and final document | Page, document title and reporting period agree |
| Results summary | Structure approved statements into readable headings and tables | Finance and legal confirm meaning and qualifications | Currency, unit and accounting basis match the released source |
| Presentation archive | Add the new dated presentation without replacing history | IR confirms the correct public version | Current and historical files remain distinguishable |
| Publication | Prepare the release or changes for internal deployment | Authorised issuer team confirms release permission | ASX market-release acknowledgment precedes public access under the applicable workflow |
| Corrections | Update the approved public page and affected links | IR and legal determine correction wording and notice | Related summaries point to the corrected source |
| Search checks | Test links, indexing eligibility and representative AI answers | IR reviews any financial discrepancy | Record the actual result and the source it cites |

The file alone isn't enough. A release can have the right PDF while its HTML summary, download label or cached page still describes an earlier version of the results instead.

That is the useful handover. Keep the approved source beside the page, its release permission and its acceptance checks, so everyone can see what must agree before anything goes public.

## How should you measure investor relations SEO?

Measure whether investors reach current official information and complete the task they came for. Keep that separate from commercial enquiries and changes in the share price.

Choose measures with clear meanings:

| Measure | What it tells you | What it doesn't tell you |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Branded-query impressions and clicks | Search visibility for the company and investor task | Whether someone bought shares |
| Correct destination for each query | Whether searches reach the intended period or archive | Whether the visitor read the document |
| Report and presentation downloads | Access to specific materials | Investor identity or investment intent |
| Webcast visits or alert subscriptions | Engagement with that IR resource | Quality of an investor relationship |
| AI answer checks | Whether answers cite current sources and preserve meaning | How often all investors see that answer |

Compare like reporting periods. Earnings announcements change search demand, so compare equivalent release windows and retain a baseline rather than crediting every traffic increase to a page edit alone.

Searchmaxxed connects Search Console and GA4 and reports through a monthly decision memo. For IR, that memo should distinguish technical improvements from investor access and any unresolved factual errors.

## Is Searchmaxxed right for your public company?

Searchmaxxed fits companies that need SEO and AI SEO implementation alongside an established IR and legal function. We work on the website; your specialists own disclosure.

Custom & Enterprise is the relevant starting point for multiple markets, dedicated engineering, custom reporting or original first-party research. We scope those requirements against the actual website.

Ownership stays with you. Our managed work includes client ownership of the site, repository, content and data, with direct access to the people doing the work rather than intermediaries.

An existing release process can stay. Where your platform requires internal deployment, our enterprise service provides merge-ready changes rather than requiring your organisation to hand over the keys to publication entirely.

| Searchmaxxed is a good fit if | Look elsewhere if |
| --- | --- |
| Your IR pages lose brand searches to share-price aggregators | You need materiality decisions or statutory filings prepared |
| Your legal and IR teams can approve changes | Nobody can approve changes to the investor site |
| You want SEO and AI answers handled by one team | You need investor relationships managed |
| You want to own your site, repository, content and data | You want strategy advice with no changes to your site |

We aren't your securities counsel. If you need someone to determine materiality, prepare statutory filings or manage investor relationships, those responsibilities belong with your legal, finance and IR specialists.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can an IR website rank for its company's share price?

An IR share-information page can target that branded search with the correct ticker, exchange and contextual information. Keep quote timestamps and delay notices visible. The data feed needs its own accuracy controls.

### Does SEO replace ASX announcements or SEC filings?

No. SEO helps people find public information; it does not replace required disclosure channels or filings. Keep the release procedure under issuer control.

### Do all US-listed companies fall under Regulation FD?

No. The SEC's Regulation FD release excludes foreign private issuers from its coverage. Counsel must assess issuer status and the other obligations that apply.

### Should we remove old annual reports from Google?

Keep useful historical reports accessible and dated. If a current search reaches an old document, improve the archive and current page before considering exclusion. History still has readers.

### Should we move an IR subdomain into the main website?

Not automatically. First inspect discovery, internal links, indexing and control over the existing platform. A move needs a document-by-document migration plan, not a preference for shorter addresses.

### Can AI write the financial summary?

AI can assist drafting inside an approved environment, but finance and legal must confirm the published meaning. Work from approved source material. Keep unreleased information out of unapproved tools.

### Does an AI citation prove the answer is correct?

No. Open the cited source and compare the period, currency, accounting basis and wording with the answer. A citation is a starting point for checking.

## Where should you start?

Start with an investor-results page and the documents it links to. Identify the searches it should answer, the source it must match and who can authorise changes.

Bring those to Searchmaxxed. We can scope the technical SEO and AI-search work around your existing IR responsibilities, whether we implement directly or prepare changes for your engineering team.
