Bottom-of-funnel content answers the questions buyers ask when they're choosing a supplier: cost, alternatives, compatibility, implementation and security. For B2B SEO, that means product pages, comparisons and practical buying guides that help someone decide whether your offer fits. Start with stalled sales conversations. Give each search a clear page, back the answer with evidence, then measure qualified opportunities rather than downloads.
I'm Brenden House. I run Searchmaxxed, an SEO and AI SEO agency. We build the pages that answer those searches, including comparison, industry and integration page families. This guide is for marketing and growth leaders turning a B2B website into a source of sales opportunities. Sources checked 27 October 2026 (AEST).
In summary
- BOFU content helps someone choose. It answers a purchase question rather than teaching an entire category from scratch.
- Match the page to the obstacle: pricing, alternatives, comparison, integration, use case, implementation or security.
- Start with sales evidence. A question blocking a suitable account deserves attention even when a keyword tool provides little useful data.
- Build with product experts. Unsupported capabilities don't become true because a page ranks.
- Count qualified opportunities and revenue. Keep content-sourced deals separate from deals that content helped along.
What is bottom-of-funnel content, and how does it differ from TOFU and MOFU?
Bottom-of-funnel content helps a buyer evaluate a specific product or supplier before committing. BOFU is the abbreviation. TOFU introduces problems; MOFU explains approaches.
Consider the operations leader at a manufacturer evaluating maintenance software for its production sites. Their searches change as the decision gets more specific, but nobody makes them read your website in order.
| Stage | Illustrative search | Useful content | Reader's decision |
|---|---|---|---|
| TOFU: top of funnel | Why does unplanned downtime happen? | Educational article | Is this a problem worth investigating? |
| MOFU: middle of funnel | Preventive vs predictive maintenance | Approach comparison | Which method suits our operation? |
| BOFU: bottom of funnel | Maintenance software with SAP integration | Product compatibility page | Can this supplier work with our systems? |
These searches are illustrative.
The format doesn't decide the stage. A webinar can explain a broad idea or demonstrate the exact workflow a procurement team needs to approve.
Same format, different job.
Content Harmony's BOFU guide makes this distinction through search intent and purchase objections, rather than restricting BOFU to product pages. Its guide was updated in February 2026.
At Searchmaxxed, we assign the question to a page before choosing the format, so educational articles don't displace the product answers buyers came for.
Which late-stage B2B searches need which pages?
Late-stage searches need pages about the decision being made, whether that's choosing a vendor or clearing a technical objection. Use the search patterns below as starting points, then check your market's results.
| Search pattern | Page to build or improve | Answer the buyer needs | Useful next action |
|---|---|---|---|
| “[Product] pricing” | Pricing or commercial-scope page | Plans, inclusions, cost drivers and quote process | Request a scoped quote |
| “[Competitor] alternatives” | Alternatives guide | Suitable replacements and switching trade-offs | Evaluate the relevant option |
| “[Product] vs [competitor]” | Head-to-head comparison | Differences that affect their use case | Book a focused demo |
| “[Product] [system] integration” | Integration page | Supported connection, data flow, setup and limits | Check technical fit |
| “[Category] for [use case]” | Use-case or industry page | How the product handles their actual work | See that workflow |
| “[Product] implementation” | Implementation guide | Responsibilities, dependencies, migration and support | Discuss rollout requirements |
| “[Product] security” | Security page or trust centre | Controls, evidence and review process | Request the relevant documents |
These patterns are not interchangeable.
An alternatives reader may want to leave an incumbent. A comparison reader has named options already, so repeating a category introduction wastes the opening.
Our guide to comparison and alternatives pages covers the evidence and table structure. First, decide whether to build it.
Pricing: explain the buying scope
A pricing page needn't publish fees. Explain what's included, what changes the scope and what information you need to prepare a quote.
That's our own approach. Searchmaxxed names its plans and inclusions, then quotes for the business rather than displaying a fee table.
Our pricing page SEO guide explains how published-price and quote-led models can both answer commercial questions without forcing a change to your pricing policy.
Integration: separate evaluation from support
Integration searches aren't exclusively from prospects. Existing users search for setup instructions too.
Check the results. A query dominated by troubleshooting documentation needs a different answer from one comparing compatible products before purchase.
We separate those jobs. The buyer-facing page explains compatibility, while linked documentation handles configuration; our integration page SEO guide explains the page itself.
Implementation and security: answer the person who can stop the purchase
The champion may not approve purchases. Finance, IT and procurement may need different evidence before the same account can proceed.
For manufacturers, check migration and production-system dependencies. A public-sector buyer may need hosting details and a documented security review process before procurement can assess the product against its requirements.
Use the actual requirements. Don't assume every organisation in a sector requires the same accreditation, or publish a certification your product team hasn't verified.
Searchmaxxed builds the page around approved facts. We don't manufacture the evidence.
How do you find bottom-of-funnel keywords worth targeting?
Find BOFU keywords by combining sales questions with Search Console queries and live search results. Search volume helps assess reach, but it doesn't establish whether your product fits.
Start with the conversations.
Ask sales what prospects search before a demo, which comparisons recur and what prevents otherwise suitable accounts from moving forward. Read lost-deal reasons alongside trial-user questions.
Record the wording buyers use. “Works with our ERP” is useful evidence; “enterprise-ready” tells the writer almost nothing about what needs answering.
Check Australia and the US separately. The relevant competitors, product availability and commercial terms may differ even when the query looks identical.
For each candidate, record:
- The search and the buyer question behind it.
- Who is asking: user, technical evaluator, finance or procurement.
- Whether results favour product pages, guides, comparisons or support documentation.
- The existing URL, if your site already answers it.
- The facts needed to answer better.
- The next action that fits the question.
Assign a page owner. “Product A alternatives” and “Product A competitors” may belong together if the results and purchase questions overlap.
An extra URL isn't progress when it competes with the page you already have. Searchmaxxed maps those overlaps before production.
Which BOFU pages should you build first?
Build the pages that answer an evidenced sales question, match your product and can be supported with current facts. Existing pages deserve a check first.
Our SEO content strategy service combines intent ownership, evidence briefs and commercial priorities, giving each page a purpose beyond another slot in the calendar.
The practical order:
- Fix inaccurate buying information already reaching prospects.
- Answer repeated questions from suitable accounts.
- Improve pages already appearing for those searches.
- Create missing pages where the offer and evidence are ready.
- Defer claims that need product work before they need copy.
A worked example: maintenance software sold to manufacturers
Consider a hypothetical manufacturing-software business. It has a product page, a supported ERP connection and incomplete rollout documentation.
This example is invented.
| Proposed work | What the hypothetical team knows | Decision | Who supplies the missing facts? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Improve the pricing page | Prospects repeatedly ask whether onboarding is included | Improve now | Commercial lead confirms inclusions |
| Build the ERP integration page | Connection exists; buyers ask which records sync | Build after technical verification | Product engineer confirms data flow and limits |
| Publish an implementation guide | Prospects need to plan migration and training | Prepare with delivery team | Implementation lead confirms responsibilities |
| Create a public-sector security page | Required evidence hasn't been checked | Hold the claims | Security and legal teams verify applicability |
| Write another maintenance overview | Existing article already answers the same question | Improve or leave the existing page | SEO owner checks search overlap |
Notice what isn't happening. Nobody is multiplying search volume by a guessed conversion rate and calling the answer a revenue forecast.
The ERP page has a clear job: help a technical evaluator decide whether the supported connection fits. Partner logos won't answer that question.
The security page has a different constraint. If the necessary control doesn't exist, clearer writing can't supply it; the product decision comes first.
This is where Searchmaxxed's delivery model matters. We handle the research, page build, technical SEO and internal links together, so the plan can become a working page.
Your specialists supply the truth.
What should a BOFU page contain to help someone decide?
A BOFU page needs a direct answer, evidence tied to the buyer's use case, meaningful limits and a clear next action. Put the decision first.
Product-led SaaS might offer a trial. For an enterprise implementation, a technical discussion may be more useful than an immediate sign-up.
Avoid making every reader start again.
| Page element | What to include | What it replaces |
|---|---|---|
| Opening answer | Who it fits and the relevant capability | A long category introduction |
| Product detail | Workflow, prerequisites and supported limits | Broad feature claims |
| Evidence | Approved case study, screenshot or documentation | An unexplained customer logo |
| Trade-offs | When another option makes more sense | A table where you win everything |
| Buying requirements | Setup, responsibilities, commercial scope | “Contact us to learn more” everywhere |
| Next action | Demo, quote, trial or technical review | An unrelated newsletter offer |
A case study needs context. State what changed, the starting position, the measurement period and which product or service was involved.
Testimonials serve a different purpose. They show someone's experience, but they don't substitute for technical documentation or establish a performance claim on their own.
For Searchmaxxed, the publishable brief identifies the reader, question, proof, internal links and next action before the page is built. That keeps product evidence inside production.
How do you make BOFU content work in Google and AI answers?
Make BOFU pages accessible, internally linked and specific enough to answer the buyer's question without surrounding context. Keep limits in readable text too.
Google's AI features guidance says supporting pages must be indexed and eligible to appear with a snippet. It requires no special AI markup, which lets the technical work focus on crawl access, readable answers and accurate structured data instead.
For the page build:
- Use a title and H1 that name the actual product question.
- Link from the relevant product page and useful supporting articles.
- Keep important answers outside image-only graphics.
- Check crawl access, indexing instructions and mobile rendering.
- Make structured data match the visible page.
- Update claims when the product, integration or commercial scope changes.
Separate public explanations from restricted evidence. A security page can describe controls and the document-request process without exposing sensitive reports intended for a private review.
That's also a useful writing test. Could someone forward the answer to their technical lead without needing to explain what the paragraph means?
Searchmaxxed combines this page work with SEO, GEO and AEO. The product facts stay consistent across the buying pages rather than changing with each keyword.
How do you measure BOFU content against pipeline?
Measure BOFU content through qualified enquiries, accepted opportunities and closed revenue, with page and account records connected wherever consent and tracking allow. Page views alone can't establish sales impact.
Agree with sales what counts as a suitable enquiry and when that enquiry becomes an opportunity worth tracking against revenue.
A qualified enquiry meets agreed customer-fit criteria. A sales opportunity is an enquiry sales has accepted into an active buying process.
For reporting, use explicit definitions of sourced and assisted pipeline:
| Measure | Practical reporting definition | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Organic landing sessions | Search visits beginning on the page | Whether the page attracts searchers |
| Qualified-enquiry rate | Qualified enquiries divided by the agreed session cohort | Whether those visits produce suitable conversations |
| Content-sourced pipeline | Accepted opportunities whose recorded acquisition source meets your content rule | Where content appears to have started acquisition |
| Content-assisted pipeline | Opportunities with a recorded relevant content interaction before progression | Where content supported an existing conversation |
| Closed-won revenue | Revenue from won opportunities under the same attribution rule | What became a sale |
Report opportunity counts and their agreed deal values separately, using a consistent currency and contract-value basis so the pipeline total stays meaningful. Don't change the rule mid-report.
Connect the page to the opportunity
Keep the landing page, acquisition source, enquiry identifier and submission date with the lead record where permitted. Link the account and opportunity too.
Record later page interactions separately. Exclude staff, bots, irrelevant enquiries and duplicate submissions before comparing results.
For longer sales cycles, compare cohorts with similar time to mature. A recently published page shouldn't be judged against an older page whose opportunities have already closed.
Searchmaxxed checks Search Console and GA4 as part of its managed work. Pipeline reporting also needs your CRM's qualification and opportunity records; analytics cannot supply sales decisions that were never recorded.
Don't count the same deal repeatedly
Imagine a fictional cohort with five opportunities. Three visited a comparison page and two visited an integration page; one opportunity visited both.
That means four unique opportunities interacted with either page, not five. The fifth visited neither.
These counts demonstrate the calculation only. Keep page-level assistance visible, but deduplicate opportunity IDs when reporting the total.
Timing matters too. A security-page visit after contract signing didn't assist that purchase, even though it belongs to the same account.
Google describes attribution as assigning credit across interactions. Its attribution guidance was checked on 27 October 2026 (AEST).
Credit isn't causation. A buyer may read more content because they're already serious, so compare deal quality and progression rather than treating every assisted deal as incremental revenue.
Is Searchmaxxed right for your B2B content work?
Searchmaxxed fits B2B teams that need SEO and AI-search strategy translated into built pages, technical fixes and measured enquiries. We build what we recommend.
Our plans differ in capacity:
| Plan | Relevant content scope |
|---|---|
| Growth System | 30 page releases monthly, including new pages or substantial rebuilds |
| Agentic Search Engineering | 50 page releases monthly, including comparison, industry and integration page families |
| Custom & Enterprise | Agreed scope for multiple markets, dedicated engineering, custom reporting or first-party research |
These are service commitments, not predictions of traffic or sales. Technical SEO, schema and internal-link work don't reduce Growth System's page commitment.
You own the site, content and data. There's direct access to the people doing the work, without an account-manager relay.
Searchmaxxed's work has generated more than A$10 million in revenue through search for its clients.
It's a cumulative result, not a forecast for your company.
| Searchmaxxed is a good fit if | Look elsewhere if |
|---|---|
| Deals stall on pricing, alternatives, integration or security questions | You want article files with no changes to your site |
| Your product team can confirm facts and approve claims | Nobody can confirm what the product does or doesn't do |
| You want SEO and AI answers handled by one team | You only want to monitor AI mentions; a tool costs less |
| You want to own your site, repository, content and data | You need search to fill this quarter's pipeline on its own |
We aren't an article-file supplier. If you want copy without website implementation, or your team can't share and approve the product facts, this isn't the right service.
Already have a capable in-house team? Keep the work there if it has the research, writing and engineering capacity to build these pages and measure their contribution properly.
Frequently asked questions
What do you call the bottom of a content funnel?
The bottom is called BOFU, short for bottom of funnel. It's the decision stage, where content helps a prospect evaluate a specific product or supplier.
Is BOFU content always a landing page?
No. A case study, comparison article, technical guide or product demo can serve a late-stage decision when it answers the buyer's actual question.
Should BOFU content be gated?
Keep search-targeted buying answers publicly readable. Restrict sensitive documents when necessary, while explaining what they contain and how a suitable buyer can request access.
Do you need a comparison page for every competitor?
No. Start with competitors that appear in your sales conversations and relevant search results, and only publish comparisons you can substantiate with current evidence.
Can BOFU content work without published prices?
Yes. Explain plans, inclusions and quote requirements. A buyer can assess commercial fit without a public fee, provided the page answers what happens next.
How long does bottom-funnel SEO take to produce pipeline?
The timing depends on discovery, rankings, existing demand and your sales cycle. Track enquiries first, then give accepted opportunities enough time to become sales.
Should you stop publishing TOFU content?
No. Fix missing buying answers first when those gaps are stopping suitable prospects, then connect useful educational content to the pages that answer their next question.
What should you do next?
Bring the buying question your website still doesn't answer, plus the page currently receiving those visitors. We can discuss the scope needed to close that gap.
