HubSpot CMS SEO gives B2B companies editable search settings, built-in recommendations and content tools, but your templates and publishing choices still determine the result. The platform can flag missing metadata. It cannot decide which product page deserves your next investment, verify your technical claims or turn every organic visit into a sales opportunity.

Start with the website you have. Check what HubSpot handles, what your team must configure, and whether the page answering a buying question gives someone a reason to enquire.

In summary

  • HubSpot supports serious B2B SEO. Its recommendations help identify faults, but they don't replace a technical review or content strategy.
  • Check your subscription first. Page-level recommendations and the domain-wide SEO tool have different access requirements.
  • Audit templates alongside individual pages. Shared modules, blog listings and script-loaded content need attention beyond a green checklist.
  • Separate content creation from AI visibility. HubSpot's AI features can support both, but each needs its own checks.
  • Agree where implementation happens. Searchmaxxed's managed website work uses an owned repository, so a HubSpot-only requirement needs an explicit scope discussion.

I'm Brenden House, founder of Searchmaxxed. We do SEO, technical SEO and AI search optimisation, with direct access to the people doing the work rather than an account-manager relay.

Is HubSpot CMS good for SEO?

Yes, HubSpot CMS provides the controls a B2B website needs for everyday SEO, including metadata, canonical URLs, redirects and recommendations for improving published content. The important distinction is control versus judgement. Having a field for a title doesn't tell you which search that page should target.

Consider a manufacturing-software company. Its marketing team wants enquiries from operations leaders searching for production scheduling software, while its blog attracts people researching manufacturing terminology for a school assignment.

Nothing necessarily broke in HubSpot. The content serves a different audience.

Searchmaxxed's content work starts with the searches your customers make, then connects product, industry, comparison and supporting pages around those searches and the real offer. The platform holds that work. It doesn't choose it.

For the wider planning decisions, our B2B content strategy guide explains how to give each page a distinct commercial job.

Which HubSpot SEO features are included?

HubSpot separates page-level recommendations from its domain-wide SEO tool, so an optimisation panel doesn't mean your subscription includes every scanning and planning feature. Check access before planning the work. The distinction matters when marketing expects developers to act on a report nobody can open.

HubSpot documents access and behaviour separately for each feature:

CapabilityWhat HubSpot documentsWhat remains your responsibility
Page-level recommendationsAvailable in all accounts, in the editor or performance detailsInterpret each recommendation against the page's purpose
Domain-wide SEO toolMarketing Hub Professional or Enterprise, or Content Hub Professional or EnterpriseCheck scan coverage and assign changes
Titles and descriptionsEditable for pages and blog postsWrite accurate, distinct search snippets
Canonical URLsNew pages and posts default to their own URLReview overrides and blog-listing behaviour
URL redirectsAvailable with specified subscriptions, including Content Hub Starter and aboveMap old URLs to relevant replacements
Multi-language pagesLanguage variants and shared groupsTranslate, localise and test each version

Features and account permissions both matter.

Where do you find SEO recommendations?

Open Marketing > SEO for the domain tool. Some accounts place Marketing under More, and HubSpot's current instructions show that navigation difference rather than a universal menu path for every account.

For an individual page or post, open its editor and select the Optimize icon in the left sidebar. Review the proposed changes there.

Treat the recommendations as leads. HubSpot says its scanner analyses HTML only and excludes assets loaded through scripts, including some calls to action that visitors can see and click.

That gap matters for B2B sites. A demo button can work badly in the browser without appearing as a problem in the SEO report.

What does HubSpot handle, and what still needs checking?

HubSpot handles useful technical defaults, but your team must verify the live URLs, indexing rules and page relationships after configuration or a template change. Searchmaxxed's technical SEO work covers those underlying checks: crawl access, indexing, redirects, canonicals, schema and mobile rendering.

Start with the public page. An editor preview cannot tell you everything that happens after publication.

HTTPS: HubSpot documents automatic standard SSL provisioning when you connect a domain. Check externally hosted assets too. An embedded resource can introduce a separate problem even when the page itself loads securely.

Canonical URLs: A canonical identifies your preferred version of duplicated content. HubSpot gives new pages and posts a self-referencing canonical, but individual overrides take priority over the site-wide setting.

XML sitemaps: Check that intended search pages appear and lead to the right live URLs. HubSpot's multilingual documentation also describes automatic sitemap entries for language variants.

Robots and indexing: Review blocked URLs and page-level exclusions against their purpose. A campaign thank-you page and a product page should not inherit the same search policy by accident.

Redirects: HubSpot's redirect tool handles requests for domains connected to and hosted in HubSpot. An external host needs its own redirect configuration, even if both sites share the same CRM.

Keep the URL map precise. HubSpot supports permanent redirects and bulk uploads, but its documentation also says file URLs cannot be redirected through this feature.

A manufacturer moving downloadable specification sheets therefore needs a separate file plan. Include PDFs in the migration inventory rather than treating the website's page list as complete.

Our technical SEO checklist covers the broader audit. Here, the important point is ownership: identify which platform serves each URL before choosing where to fix it.

Should B2B content use blog posts or website pages?

Use website pages for lasting product, service, industry and integration information; use blog posts for explanations that support those pages without competing for their purpose. Choose by the reader's task. A product-selection search deserves more than a definition followed by a newsletter form.

Return to the manufacturing-software example. These are proposed page roles, not results from a client project.

Search or taskSuitable pageContent that earns the visit
Production scheduling softwareProduct pageCapabilities, constraints, implementation and a relevant demo path
Scheduling software for food manufacturingIndustry pageReal production requirements and supported workflows
How finite-capacity scheduling worksBlog articleA clear explanation with a worked production example
Does the software connect to our ERP?Integration pageSupported connection, data exchanged and setup requirements

Link the explanation to the product. Link the product to its integration details where those details answer a genuine objection.

HubSpot's topic tools can help organise related content, but a cluster diagram doesn't prove that the articles link to the intended page in published HTML. Test the links themselves.

How do HubSpot blog settings differ?

Blog listing pages deserve separate checks. HubSpot says they have no canonical URL by default, unlike new website pages and individual posts.

Its canonical documentation warns about pointing every listing page's canonical at the first page in the series. Search engines may then miss subsequent pages.

There's another easily missed distinction. HubSpot's word-count recommendation applies to blog posts, not website pages, and its guidance treats length as topic-dependent.

Write until the question is answered. Padding the software's product page to satisfy a blog recommendation would solve the wrong problem.

How do templates and modules affect HubSpot website SEO?

Templates and shared modules can repeat an SEO fault across a whole page family, so test a real product page before extending its design elsewhere. A reusable error stays reusable. Review the output as well as the controls the editor offers.

For the scheduling-software page, ask the developer to check:

  • Headings: Does the visible product name provide a clear main heading?
  • Links: Can crawlers follow navigation and related-page links through normal anchor elements?
  • Page fields: Can editors change metadata without copying another page's title?
  • Structured data: Does the schema describe the visible product and organisation accurately?
  • Mobile layout: Can visitors read comparison tables and complete the enquiry form?
  • Default content: Does the public page explain the offer before personalisation or scripts alter it?

HubSpot's documentation recommends crawlable links using an anchor tag with an href attribute. That gives you a concrete test, rather than a vague instruction to make navigation SEO-friendly.

Check schema after rendering too. A module and a template can both contribute markup, so inspect the combined output before adding another copy of the same organisation details.

How should you improve HubSpot page speed?

Improve HubSpot page speed by testing the template with its images, forms, videos and scripts, then fixing the elements that delay useful content. Hosting alone cannot settle this. A clean template and a heavily instrumented campaign page are different performance tests.

HubSpot's recommendations call out oversized images and describe responsive images as a developer option. Start with those files, then inspect the remaining requests.

Use Core Web Vitals to describe the experience:

  • Largest Contentful Paint: How long the main visible content takes to appear.
  • Interaction to Next Paint: How promptly the page responds to an interaction.
  • Cumulative Layout Shift: How much visible content moves unexpectedly.

Test before and after the change. Compare the same page and device conditions, alongside available real-user data, rather than celebrating a better score from an almost empty template.

For our software example, test the product page with its demo form, consent banner and video present. Those are part of the experience someone will use.

How does HubSpot handle multilingual and regional SEO?

HubSpot supports language groups and automatically generates alternate-language links for their variants, but coded templates and regional content still need deliberate setup and review. Translation alone won't finish the work. Australian and US buyers may share a language while needing different procurement or implementation information.

Hreflang identifies alternate language or regional versions of a page. HubSpot's developer documentation explains the automatic alternate links, sitemap entries and in-language link rewriting.

It also describes what developers must handle. Coded templates need language attributes, and a language switcher needs implementation rather than an assumption that it appears automatically.

Use regional pages where the offer differs. For the manufacturing-software example, check supported markets, local terminology, integration availability and contractual claims with the company's own specialists before adapting the copy.

Check the whole path. A translated product page that sends someone to an untranslated form leaves the job unfinished.

Searchmaxxed's Custom & Enterprise scope can include multiple markets and dedicated engineering. The CMS implementation arrangement still needs agreement before that work starts.

Do HubSpot's AI features improve search visibility?

HubSpot's AI features can help create and adapt content, while its AEO tools assess visibility in answer engines; these serve different parts of search work. Keep the distinction clear. Generating another article doesn't show that an answer engine recommends your product.

HubSpot's AI visibility documentation describes Breeze, content recommendations and ongoing analysis of brand mentions and citations. It also sets separate subscription requirements for certain features.

For HubSpot AEO, it specifies Marketing Hub Professional or Enterprise, or a HubSpot AEO subscription. Confirm the features available in your account before allocating the work.

The content still needs product knowledge. Ask your software specialists to verify integrations, operating limits and implementation claims before treating generated copy as an answer customers can rely on.

Searchmaxxed's SEO and AI SEO work connects clear page facts, relevant structured data and checks of what answer engines say about the business. The aim is useful visibility. Article volume alone tells you little about that.

What should you check before releasing a HubSpot SEO change?

Check the changed page from search access through to the enquiry destination, because a valid title tag and a working form solve different business problems. Keep the checks together. The worksheet below applies the documented HubSpot limits to our hypothetical manufacturing-software page.

CheckPass conditionSuggested owner
Search purposeProduct page answers a software-selection questionMarketing lead
Crawl accessIntended public URL loads and permits indexingSEO lead
CanonicalPreferred product URL matches the intended pageSEO lead
TemplateHeadings, links and schema match visible contentDeveloper
Language variantCorrect alternate page and language-specific navigationDeveloper and regional reviewer
Browser behaviourDemo link and form work beyond the HTML-only scanDeveloper
Enquiry handoffTest enquiry reaches the intended CRM destinationMarketing operations
MeasurementLanding-page activity connects to the agreed conversion eventAnalytics owner

This is a proposed release worksheet. It makes no claim about a particular HubSpot account's performance.

Then measure business relevance. Compare Search Console queries and landing pages with genuine enquiries and the sales team's assessment of their quality.

Agree the attribution model before reporting revenue. A CRM association helps explain a deal's history, but it doesn't prove that a single article caused the sale.

Is Searchmaxxed right for your HubSpot SEO work?

Searchmaxxed fits B2B teams that want technical SEO, commercial content and AI search optimisation tied to implementation and measurement, rather than a recommendations document alone. Set the platform boundary first. Our managed website delivery uses a client-owned repository and infrastructure, with implementation on that website.

That matters if HubSpot CMS must stay. Agree whether the engagement covers an audit, an owned-site migration, or another implementation arrangement before treating a managed plan as native HubSpot development.

Our AI SEO Audit provides the starting point: where customers search without finding you, what the site is doing to itself, and the prioritised plan.

Growth System includes substantial page work alongside technical SEO, schema, internal links and measurement. Agentic Search Engineering adds comparison, industry and integration page families, while Custom & Enterprise can include dedicated engineering and multiple markets.

You may need a different arrangement. Agree the implementation platform before choosing a managed plan.

Frequently asked questions

Is HubSpot SEO different from normal SEO?

The principles stay the same. HubSpot SEO applies search research, content, internal linking and technical checks through HubSpot's editors, templates and settings rather than another website platform.

Can you do HubSpot SEO without an extra plugin?

Yes, HubSpot includes native SEO controls. Your subscription determines access to some tools, and template development may still be necessary when the published output needs changes.

Does every HubSpot account include the full SEO tool?

No, access differs by feature. Page-level recommendations are available in all accounts, while the domain SEO tool requires qualifying Professional or Enterprise subscriptions.

Does HubSpot automatically fix SEO recommendations?

A recommendation identifies proposed work. HubSpot provides routes into the editor, but your team still needs to choose the right change and verify the published result.

Can HubSpot manage redirects for an externally hosted website?

Not through its hosted-domain redirect tool. HubSpot says those redirects require a connected, HubSpot-hosted domain; configure external website redirects where that website's requests arrive.

Is Content Hub SEO the same topic as HubSpot CMS SEO?

They overlap for website work. Content Hub includes website capabilities, while some SEO and AI visibility tools have separate access rules involving Marketing Hub or HubSpot AEO.

Should you migrate away from HubSpot to improve SEO?

Only when the requirements justify it. First identify the actual constraint, then compare fixing the existing site with migrating its content, URLs, integrations and measurement.

What should you do next?

Bring Searchmaxxed your website, priority markets and the CMS requirements your team must keep. Start with the constraint that prevents useful search traffic from becoming an enquiry.
