Lumar review: the enterprise crawler, its pricing and the best alternatives (2026)

Lumar (formerly Deepcrawl) is a cloud crawler for large sites, priced by quote. What it does, who it suits, what to ask sales, and 6 alternatives compared.

Key takeaways

Lumar earns its quote on big, JavaScript-heavy sites whose developers ship often, though a 5,000-page site with one SEO won't use most of it.

  • Buy it for millions of URLs, scheduled crawls, monitoring and tests that stop bad releases.
  • Smaller site? Screaming Frog (£199 a year) or Sitebulb (from $18 monthly) cover most of the same checks.
  • Closest enterprise rivals: Botify, Oncrawl, JetOctopus.
  • Lumar prices on the apps, active projects and URL allowance you choose, so ask about all three.

For AI search, Lumar tells you whether engines can read your pages, but getting named takes pages and mentions as well. That takes a team.

Lumar is the cloud-based website crawler and optimisation platform formerly called Deepcrawl, renamed in September 2022. It suits enterprise sites with hundreds of thousands or millions of URLs, and Lumar's tests clock its crawler at up to 450 URLs a second. Four apps do the work (Analyze, Monitor, Protect and Impact), and Lumar added GEO and AI visibility tools to them from August 2025. Prices aren't published. Every plan starts with a custom quote.

Our verdict: pick Lumar if you run a large, complex site and have SEO and engineering people ready to act on everything it finds.

Here at Searchmaxxed, we're an SEO and AI SEO agency for law firms, clinics and premium builders. If your crawler already shows the faults and your rankings still won't move, the missing piece is the fixing. That's our part. We fix what stops Google and the AI engines reading your site, put each fix live and check it on the live page.

What is Lumar, and is it the same as Deepcrawl?

Yes. Lumar is Deepcrawl with a new name and a wider job. Launched as Deepcrawl in 2010, the company announced its new name on 28 September 2022, after growing into what it calls a website intelligence platform.

Here's how the app names changed:

Deepcrawl nameLumar nameWhat it does
Analytics HubAnalyzeCrawls the site and reports the issues
Monitor HubMonitorTracks changes and alerts your team
Automation HubProtectTests code before it goes live
(new in 2022)ImpactShows the business case for fixes

One trace of the old name matters. Lumar's crawler identifies itself with "lumar" or "deepcrawl" in its user agent, and some long-standing accounts still send the Deepcrawl string. Tell your security team about both, or the crawl gets blocked before it starts.

Lumar's about page lists Adobe, Microsoft, Comcast and Deloitte among its users. Its pricing page says it holds SOC 2 Type 2 certification, a report enterprise security teams often ask for.

What does Lumar do for SEO?

Lumar crawls your site the way a search engine does. Then it turns what it finds into alerts, reports and tests that run before each release. The goal is plain: show your team the crawl, indexing, rendering and speed faults holding rankings back.

Each app covers one stage:

AppWhat it doesWho uses it most
AnalyzeFull crawls with hundreds of built-in reports and custom extractionTechnical SEO leads
MonitorTracks key metrics across domains and alerts on new issuesSEO and digital ops teams
ProtectRuns over 200 automated tests in your build pipelineDevelopers and QA
ImpactHealth scores, benchmarks and the commercial case for fixesHeads of SEO, leadership

The crawler is the core. Lumar's crawler page quotes up to 450 URLs a second without JavaScript rendering, and up to 350 a second with it. You set the ceiling.

JavaScript sites get proper treatment too. Lumar's rendering guide says its page rendering service runs the latest stable Chrome and stores the raw and rendered HTML of each page. Comparing the two shows you content and links that only appear once JavaScript runs.

Around the crawler sit the extras:

  • Site speed: Lighthouse reports at scale and origin-level Chrome field data for Core Web Vitals.
  • Accessibility: tests aligned to WCAG 2.2, levels A to AAA.
  • Integrations: Search Console, GA4 with conversion data, Adobe Analytics, BigQuery, Google Data Studio, Looker, Tableau and Power BI, listed on its integrations page.
  • Logs: server log data through Splunk or Logz.io, or a manual upload.
  • Workflow: Jira tickets, Slack alerts and a GraphQL API for your own tools.

Does Lumar help with AI search, GEO and AEO?

Yes, on the technical side. Lumar's GEO toolkit reports on whether AI systems can find, read and trust your pages. Since 31 March 2026, its AI Search Visibility tool has also tracked your brand across six AI engines.

The GEO reports fall into three groups:

  • Discovery: crawlability, robots.txt, nosnippet tags, raw versus rendered HTML and how AI bots hit your site.
  • Understanding: page content and structured data.
  • Inclusion: semantic relevance and the AI engines that refer visits to you.

The visibility tool runs the prompts you choose across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude. It records brand mentions, citation positions and sentiment, then rolls them into one AI Visibility Score with up to two years of stored data.

Useful, but only half the job.

A crawler can tell you an AI engine is able to read your pages, but it can't make that engine name you. Getting named takes pages that answer the buyer's question and trusted sites that mention you. Our guide on how to show up in AI search covers that side: answer-first pages, outside mentions and measuring each engine on its own.

How much does Lumar cost?

Lumar doesn't publish its prices. Its FAQ says Lumar prices "based on your individual needs" and delivers "a tailored proposal", and its pricing page is a contact form.

Three things set the number, going by Lumar's own pages. First come the apps you choose, since the pricing page invites you to "skip the ones you don't need". Then there are your active projects, and the number of URLs you can crawl in each billing period. Domains aren't capped.

Take these questions into the sales call:

Ask LumarWhy it matters
Which apps are in this quote?Analyze, Monitor, Protect, Impact, GEO and AI visibility can each change the price
How many URLs can we crawl per billing period? The allowance caps how often you can recrawl a large site
How many active projects do we get?Domains are unlimited, but active projects are not
What happens if we run out of URLs mid-period?A site migration can need several full crawls in a few weeks
Do we need a private proxy?Lumar charges "a small monthly fee" for one
Which integrations and how much professional services time are included?Logs, BI tools and expert hours shape what you get from it
What happens to our data if we leave?Reports stay until the account expires, so export first

How do you set up Lumar on an enterprise site?

Start with access, then rendering, then data. Lumar's FAQ warns that bot management tools can block its crawler, so clear the security layer first.

Here's a worked example. Picture a cybersecurity company with 80,000 URLs: product pages, a docs subdomain, a blog and an integrations directory built in JavaScript, all sitting behind Cloudflare. Its first setup takes six steps, each one from Lumar's own documentation.

  1. Let the crawler through. Allow Lumar's two crawl IPs, 52.5.118.182 and 52.86.188.211, in the Cloudflare firewall. If you crawl from a regional IP or a proxy instead, Lumar's Cloudflare guide says to allow user agents containing "deepcrawl".
  2. Crawl as Google does. Keep Lumar's default user agent, Googlebot Smartphone, and switch on JavaScript rendering for the integrations directory.
  3. Compare raw and rendered HTML. Links that appear only after rendering rely on crawlers running your JavaScript. Lumar's GEO reports flag that gap as an AI discovery issue.
  4. Throttle and schedule. Agree a safe crawl speed with your web ops team, then run big crawls in quiet hours such as 1am to 5am.
  5. Connect the data. Add Search Console, GA4 and server logs, so every fault carries its traffic and its bot hits. Reports only appear when a crawl finishes.
  6. Guard the next release. Put Protect into the CI/CD pipeline on staging. A test set to Fail stops the build, and a Warning sends an email or Slack alert while the build carries on.

Protect has pre-built links to GitHub, Jenkins, CircleCI and Azure DevOps. For a weekly release cycle, that matters. It stops a release that would break your SEO before the change reaches the live site, which guards rankings between audits.

What are the best Lumar alternatives?

The best Lumar alternative depends on your site's size and who runs the crawls. For audits of up to 500,000 URLs, Screaming Frog and Sitebulb publish low prices. Running millions of URLs with logs? Look at Botify, Oncrawl and JetOctopus.

This is our own selection of tools that do Lumar's job, not a survey or an award. Each price below comes from the vendor's own pricing page on 1 November 2026.

Screaming Frog SEO Spider

Screaming Frog is the desktop crawler most SEOs learn on. Its pricing page lists a free version capped at 500 URLs, and a paid licence at £199 per user per year. Bulk discounts start at five licences. Crawl size depends on your machine's memory.

Sitebulb

Sitebulb pairs its crawler with plain-English explanations and prioritised "hints". Its pricing page shows Lite at $18 monthly for 10,000 URLs per audit and Pro at $42 for 500,000. Sitebulb Cloud starts at $125 monthly.

JetOctopus

JetOctopus is a cloud crawler with log analysis built in. Its pricing page lists the Growth plan at $349 monthly on annual billing, covering 500,000 crawled URLs and 2 million log lines a month. Seats and projects are unlimited.

Botify

Botify is a cloud platform for large sites that now leads with AI agents. Its homepage promises to serve pages to agents "in under 300ms" and to rebuild product feeds for Google and OpenAI. Pricing starts with a demo. Our enterprise SEO platforms comparison covers Botify and Conductor in more depth, including the AI engines each one tracks.

Oncrawl

Oncrawl joins a cloud crawler to a log analyser. Its AI Search Lens shows which parts of a site language models cite, and its homepage claims over 500 million log lines processed daily. Book a demo for pricing.

Conductor

Conductor is a content and AEO platform with a website monitoring module, which checks up to 100,000 pages around the clock on the Essentials plan. Its pricing page lists plan limits but no prices. Essentials comes with a free trial.

Lumar vs Screaming Frog: which should you use?

Use Screaming Frog for hands-on audits, and Lumar for scheduled crawls, monitoring and release testing on the largest sites. They solve different problems, so you can run both.

Screaming Frog runs on one person's computer. Lumar runs in the cloud, so your team can schedule several crawls at once, share reports by link and test code before each release. Then there's price. Screaming Frog publishes its £199 licence, while Lumar quotes each contract.

Does Lumar fix the problems it finds?

No. Lumar finds, ranks, tracks and tests problems, then eases the handover to people with AI-written ticket text, task tracking and Jira tickets. Lumar also sells SEO Professional Services, where its technical SEO specialists give expert guidance through monthly engagements.

The fix itself still needs someone to change the template, get it through the release queue and check the live page afterwards. That's often where a crawl report stalls. Engineering has its own roadmap, and the SEO lead can't ship code to get a fix out.

That's the gap our technical SEO service fills. We crawl your site the way search engines do and check it against Search Console and your server logs. Then we rank every fault by the revenue behind it, fix it, put it live and check it again on the live site. If your team relies on Lumar, keep it, because a team and a tool work side by side. Starting from scratch? Our technical SEO checklist lists 35 checks in the order to run them.

Is Searchmaxxed right for you?

We're a strong fit if you're a law firm, clinic or premium builder that's losing ground in Google or missing from AI answers. Maybe your crawler's findings pile up faster than anyone can fix them. You want the work done, and you want to see what it earns.

Here's what that looks like with us:

  • You talk to the people doing the work, with no account manager in between.
  • We fix the technical faults, then build the pages and earn the mentions that ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and AI Overviews draw on.
  • We set up and check Search Console and GA4, then track which searches and AI answers turn into revenue, through your CRM as well.
  • You own your site, repository, content and data from day one.

One client came to us with a website that wasn't working. Three months later he was on page one for one of the most competitive searches in his industry. Now he has more high-intent leads than he can handle, and we're building the systems to handle them.

The bigger picture:

Searchmaxxed's work has generated more than $15 million in revenue through search for its clients.

"I can't believe this worked." That's what we hear. Clients tell us they finally found a growth partner in search that keeps its word and gets things done.

We're the wrong call in two cases. If you need leads this month just to survive, search takes longer than that. And if your own technical team already ships fixes every week, you only need a crawler: buy Lumar or one of the tools above.

What should you do next?

If you're weighing Lumar, book its demo with the quote questions above in hand. If you'd rather know where your site and your competitors stand before you buy anything, get your free search analysis. We'll benchmark you against your top competitors across Google, ChatGPT and the other AI engines. We'll show you where they're named instead of you, and the few moves that will matter most.

Frequently asked questions

Does Lumar have a free trial?

Lumar doesn't list a free trial or a free plan on its website. You fill in a form for a demo or a quote instead.

Will Lumar slow down my website?

Lumar's FAQ says most sites never slow down, and the risk only comes when your servers already run near capacity during a crawl. Cap the crawl speed in URLs per second, and agree that limit with your server team.

Can Lumar crawl a staging site or a site behind a login?

Yes. Lumar's FAQ says you allow its user agent or IP addresses into your network, then add any basic authentication or DNS settings the site needs. Protect also supports a static IP, a custom user agent and custom request headers.

Does Lumar do log file analysis?

Yes. Lumar brings in server logs through its Splunk and Logz.io integrations, or through a manual upload. Logs show which pages Googlebot and AI bots request and how often, so you can compare their visits with the pages that earn you money.

What is DeepRank in Lumar?

DeepRank is Lumar's score for each page's internal link weight. Lumar works it out much like Google's original PageRank, passing value through every internal link over several rounds until the scores settle. High scores mark the pages your own site treats as important.

Can you share Lumar reports with people outside the account?

Yes. Lumar creates private links for account members and public links that anyone can open. A public link can expire anywhere from 24 hours to six months later, which suits sharing a crawl with an agency or a developer.
