Recruitment agency SEO helps employers find your hiring services while giving candidates a clear route to the vacancies your team is trying to fill. Those searches need different pages. Employer pages should explain who you recruit, where you operate and how hiring works; job pages need accurate listings and working applications. Measure each audience separately. Otherwise, a busy job board can disguise an empty sales pipeline.

I'm Brenden House, founder of Searchmaxxed. We do SEO, AI SEO, GEO and AEO for recruitment and staffing firms, combining website changes with ongoing search work.

This guide covers Australia and the US, with specific examples for recruitment groups selling to manufacturers, technology companies and other established employers. It explains SEO for your recruitment business, rather than hiring an SEO specialist.

In summary

Recruitment agency SEO needs separate employer and candidate pages, accurate vacancy data and separate measures for hiring enquiries and applications.

  • Build employer pages around hiring needs, with separate routes for candidates seeking work.
  • Put JobPosting structured data on individual vacancies only, never sector pages or job-search results.
  • Keep job status, application links and public pages aligned with your applicant tracking system.
  • Give sector and location pages evidence that helps an employer choose your firm.
  • Track qualified employer enquiries, accepted briefs and placement revenue separately from applications and AI mentions.

How should recruitment agency SEO separate employers from candidates?

Recruitment agency SEO needs distinct employer and candidate sections, even when both live on the same website. Give each audience its own next step.

An employer needs a shortlist. A candidate is looking for a suitable vacancy and a straightforward way to apply. Sending both to a vacancy search box leaves the employer to work out whether you can solve their hiring problem.

Searchmaxxed's SEO services cover the keyword research, page structure, content and technical changes behind that separation. For recruitment, we map searches to these destinations:

Illustrative searchReader's needBest destinationUseful outcome
Manufacturing recruitment agencyFind a recruitment partnerEmployer-facing sector pageQualified hiring enquiry
Contract engineering recruiters MelbourneRecruit engineers in a marketRelevant sector and location pageAccepted client brief
SaaS executive search firmAppoint senior leadershipExecutive search service pageSearch consultation
Manufacturing engineer jobs ChicagoFind available workMaintained role and location jobs hubRelevant application
Specific manufacturing engineer vacancyEvaluate an advertised positionIndividual job detail pageCompleted application
Contract versus permanent recruitmentChoose a hiring modelEmployer guide linked to relevant servicesService enquiry

These illustrative searches show how to separate audiences; they aren't a keyword-volume forecast or evidence of demand in any particular market.

Keep the navigation obvious: “Hire talent” and “Find a job”. Employer forms should ask about the role, employment model and location, then reach the relevant team.

Don't count a CV upload as a sales lead. Both matter, but differently.

What belongs on employer-facing sector pages?

Employer pages should explain the roles you fill, the hiring models you offer and the evidence that makes your firm a credible sector specialist. Start with the employer's decision.

A manufacturing staffing page needs more than “we find great people”. Explain production hiring, engineering specialisms, shift requirements and the screening your team actually performs.

For a B2B SaaS recruiter, the details change: technical leadership, sales hiring, product experience and how retained search differs from permanent recruitment.

At Searchmaxxed, we build that detail into the page rather than sending buyers through a generic article library. The service itself comes first.

These are the details an employer should find before contacting your team:

  • Roles and seniority levels covered.
  • Permanent, temporary, contract or executive search services actually available.
  • Industries and locations served, without implying offices that don't exist.
  • Screening, references and credential checks your team can substantiate.
  • Named sector specialists, with their real experience.
  • Approved placement examples, explaining the vacancy and result.
  • A clear employer enquiry route.

Evidence needs a denominator. If you publish a fill rate, define which briefs it covers and the measurement period; explain withdrawn briefs and repeat assignments too.

Keep confidential details confidential. A useful example can describe the hiring challenge without identifying an employer who hasn't consented to publication.

How do job pages qualify for Google for Jobs?

Google's job search experience requires eligible individual vacancies, accessible pages and accurate JobPosting structured data. Candidates still need to apply.

Structured data is code that describes the visible page in a format search engines can read. You still need the description.

Google's JobPosting documentation distinguishes required fields from recommended details. Those rules should shape the template.

Field or ruleWhat the recruitment site should provide
titleThe actual job title, without promotional additions
descriptionA complete job description, including responsibilities and requirements
datePostedThe original publication date
hiringOrganizationThe organisation offering the position; use Google's confidential-employer rule where applicable
jobLocationWhere the employee reports to work, not the recruiter's office; remote roles have separate rules
validThroughThe expiry date when the vacancy has one
baseSalaryActual employer-provided pay where supplied, with matching visible information
Application routeA functioning way to apply for that vacancy

For an anonymous employer, Google explicitly permits hiringOrganization.name to contain confidential. Don't substitute the recruitment agency merely because it published the advert.

Remote means remote. Use jobLocationType: TELECOMMUTE for fully remote work, with accurate applicant-location restrictions; a hybrid position isn't automatically a fully remote role.

Salary markup isn't a hiding place. Google's rules require the salary to appear on the page too, and the figure must come from the employer rather than an estimate.

Our technical work checks the rendered vacancy, its markup and the application link together, so the code describes the opportunity a candidate actually sees. Then we test the application itself.

Should a sector or jobs category page use JobPosting?

No. Google restricts JobPosting to a page containing an individual job, though a manufacturing jobs hub can be useful and indexable without that markup.

This distinction is easy to miss. Your permanent sector pages explain the service; your jobs hubs organise vacancies; your individual job pages describe actual openings.

Keep their jobs separate.

How should an ATS handle filled and expired jobs?

An applicant tracking system, or ATS, should trigger public-page changes when a recruiter closes a vacancy, rather than leaving an old advert accepting applications. Closed must mean closed.

Google's documented options are to put validThrough in the past, remove the JobPosting markup, or return an HTTP 404 or 410. Choose according to the page's purpose.

Vacancy statePublic page treatmentWhat to test
Open and accepting applicationsCurrent description, valid markup, working apply linkApplication reaches the correct requisition
Filled, but useful as an archiveClearly closed notice and no active JobPosting markupNo button suggests the vacancy remains open
Removed without an ongoing purpose404 or 410 responseNo stale copy remains in the website feed
Genuine new vacancy for a similar rolePublish the new requisition accuratelyIdentity, dates and application destination match the new job

Don't redirect every expired vacancy to the homepage. It doesn't answer the candidate's question, and it hides whether the ATS closure reached the website correctly.

Google recommends its Indexing API for job-posting updates and removals, while retaining a sitemap for wider site coverage. This isn't an indexing shortcut for employer service pages.

Searchmaxxed checks the website side of this handoff. When an ATS supplier controls the feed, the supplier must support the required status changes and application links.

Which technical SEO problems matter most for recruitment websites?

Recruitment websites need crawlable service pages, accessible job details and controlled filter URLs that let search engines discover new vacancies without exploring every search combination. Empty searches are wasted visits.

Filters create faceted navigation: combinations such as sector, location, salary, contract type and sort order. Useful for people; potentially enormous for crawlers.

Google's faceted-navigation guidance explains how these combinations can slow discovery of useful pages. It recommends preventing unnecessary crawling where filtered URLs don't need indexing.

Use deliberate rules, not a blanket fix:

  • Keep valuable employer pages and maintained jobs hubs discoverable through normal links.
  • Give each individual vacancy a stable URL.
  • Keep duplicate tracking variants out of internal links and job sitemaps.
  • Define which filter combinations deserve search visibility.
  • Test mobile rendering, page speed, Core Web Vitals and the complete application flow.
  • Keep private candidate records outside public search pages.

Canonical tags identify a preferred version of duplicate or very similar content, helping search engines understand which URL you want people to find. Decide what deserves indexing first.

Google's canonical guidance also warns that robots.txt isn't a canonicalisation tool. Blocking crawling doesn't reliably remove an indexed URL.

Our technical SEO work covers these controls alongside redirects, sitemaps and rendering. On recruitment sites, we test them against real vacancy states before changing whole templates.

When do recruitment firms need sector and location pages?

Build a sector-location page when your firm genuinely serves that market and can answer something the broader sector page cannot. A changed city name isn't enough.

The page should explain local coverage, available specialisms and the team responsible for enquiries, so employers can judge whether you handle their particular hiring need. Where relevant, add verified licensing information and approved local hiring evidence.

Keep the boundaries honest. Serving employers in Chicago doesn't establish a Chicago office; recruiting Australian engineers doesn't establish permission to supply labour in every jurisdiction.

Searchmaxxed builds these pages around actual services and verified business facts. We also connect them to sector pages, relevant hiring guides and the correct employer enquiry form.

The wider branch architecture belongs in our multi-location SEO guide. Here, the recruitment-specific question is whether each location page helps an employer evaluate your hiring service.

How do licensing rules affect recruitment SEO content?

Licensing content must match the service, jurisdiction and legal entity, rather than borrowing a compliance claim from another branch or company within your group. The legal categories matter.

Don't publish a blanket “licensed nationwide” claim from a single registration. Check the applicable regulator and have your compliance owner confirm the wording before publication.

These official examples show why:

MarketWhat the regulator saysWhat the website must distinguish
QueenslandLabour hire providers operating in Queensland fall under a mandatory licensing scheme, with exclusionsSupplying workers versus recruitment and permanent placement
New York CityEmployment agencies providing job assistance for a fee generally need a licence, with specified exemptionsFee-charging placement services versus qualifying staffing and executive-search models

Queensland's licensing guidance says recruitment and permanent placement services don't fall within its labour hire licensing scheme. Supplying and paying temporary workers is a different arrangement.

New York City's checklist exempts qualifying staffing agencies that employ the workers they contract out. It also identifies certain executive-search and employer-fee-paid exemptions.

Those exemptions have conditions. They don't remove every other legal obligation, and these examples aren't a complete Australian or US licensing map.

For Searchmaxxed's page work, your compliance team supplies the verified licence details and service boundaries. We make those facts clear on the relevant pages, without inventing legal assurances.

How can recruitment firms appear in AI answers?

Recruitment firms need clear, accessible explanations of their specialisms, coverage and hiring process to become useful sources for AI answers. The evidence must support the recommendation.

Google's AI search guidance says existing SEO fundamentals apply to AI Overviews and AI Mode. It requires no special AI schema.

An employer's question can be specific: “Which recruitment firms supply contract engineers for manufacturing projects in Australia?” Your page needs to answer that actual question.

Write down the service boundaries. Explain the roles covered, hiring arrangement, supported markets and screening process, then attach evidence your firm is allowed to publish.

Searchmaxxed's AI SEO, GEO and AEO work combines those page changes with tracking across the relevant engines. Record mentions separately from citations.

A citation links to a source. A mention names your recruitment firm without necessarily linking to its website or providing evidence for the way the answer describes your services. Neither is an employer enquiry, so don't put all three into the same results total.

What would Searchmaxxed change for a manufacturing recruitment group?

For a manufacturing recruitment group, we would connect employer pages to verified hiring services and test every vacancy state against the ATS. Start with a complete example.

Assume an established group serves Australian and US manufacturers, offering permanent engineering recruitment and temporary production staffing. This is an illustrative plan, not a client result.

CheckProposed Searchmaxxed workEvidence that the change works
Employer searches land on jobs pagesBuild distinct engineering recruitment and production staffing pagesRelevant queries reach employer pages; enquiries identify hiring needs
Candidate listings mix regionsConnect maintained jobs hubs to the correct vacanciesWork location and applicant restrictions agree throughout
A confidential client posts a roleApply Google's confidential-employer ruleVisible advert and structured data accurately describe the vacancy
A recruiter fills the roleTest the ATS closure through to the websiteClosed status, markup and application behaviour change together
A location page claims labour hire coverageCheck the entity and service against approved compliance recordsPublished licence information matches the applicable service
The report blends applications and salesSeparate employer enquiries from candidate outcomesCRM briefs and ATS applications remain distinct

The closure test is especially useful. Ask a recruiter to close a test vacancy, then check its public URL, markup, application destination and job-search results on your website.

Now test reopening a genuinely reopened role. Check that an old cached feed hasn't restored stale dates or the wrong application destination.

This exposes the gap between “the integration works” and a candidate applying to the right opening. It also gives the ATS supplier something specific to fix.

How should a recruitment firm measure SEO revenue?

Measure employer acquisition and candidate acquisition separately, then connect each to the briefs, placements and revenue that your recruitment team can actually trace. Traffic leaves that question unanswered.

TrackEarly measureBusiness outcome
Employer SEORelevant landing-page visits and qualified enquiriesAccepted briefs, new client placements and attributable revenue
Candidate SEOCompleted applications from suitable candidatesInterviews, starts and placements
Job-page healthCurrent pages with valid markup and working applicationsFewer wasted applications to closed vacancies
AI visibilityAccurate mentions and citations for hiring questionsReferred enquiries where the source can be established

Keep a stable lead identifier between the enquiry and CRM record. For candidates, preserve the requisition identifier through the application and ATS record, so a completed form can be connected to the vacancy it concerns.

Searchmaxxed connects Search Console and GA4 to the website work, with sales feedback informing subsequent changes. Custom reporting belongs in an agreed enterprise scope.

A longer sales cycle needs patience. Compare enquiry cohorts through to accepted briefs rather than assigning this month's placement revenue to this month's search traffic.

Is Searchmaxxed right for your recruitment firm?

Searchmaxxed fits recruitment firms that need website implementation and ongoing SEO and AI search work together. It suits teams ready to improve employer acquisition beyond the job board.

For enterprise recruitment SEO, access matters. We'll need a workable route to website changes, the ATS supplier where relevant, and people who can confirm hiring and compliance facts.

Frequently asked questions

Is hiring an SEO company worth it for a recruitment agency?

It can be worthwhile when the company improves employer enquiries or relevant candidate acquisition and connects that work to business outcomes. Ask who implements the changes.

A strategy document alone won't fix your job templates.

Can employer and candidate pages share a domain?

Yes. Use distinct navigation, page purposes and conversion events. Separate domains aren't required just because your recruitment firm serves both employers and candidates.

Can recruitment agencies appear in Google for Jobs?

Yes. Eligible individual vacancies can appear through Google's job search experience when they meet its content, technical and structured-data rules. Inclusion isn't automatic.

Can a confidential vacancy use JobPosting markup?

Yes. Google's documentation permits confidential as the hiring organisation's name for anonymous employers. Other job details and the application route still need to be accurate.

Should recruitment agencies delete every expired job page?

No. Google allows several treatments, including removing JobPosting markup or setting an expiry date in the past. Retained pages should clearly state that applications have closed.

Does recruitment SEO require a new ATS?

Not necessarily. First test whether your existing ATS and website can publish accurate, accessible vacancies and process closures correctly. Replacement depends on the actual limitations.

Does AI search replace recruitment SEO?

No. Google says normal SEO foundations remain relevant to its AI features. Searchmaxxed includes GEO and AEO within managed search work rather than treating them as replacements.

Bring your priority sectors, target markets and ATS setup. We'll map the employer pages, vacancy fixes and measurement your recruitment firm needs.
