The best digital PR agency for a B2B company earns coverage in the publications your buyers read, then proves what each placement did. Three numbers prove it: links to the pages you need to rank, mentions in ChatGPT and Google's AI answers, and pipeline. Judge agencies on published B2B coverage, measurement and process. My pick is Searchmaxxed, an SEO and AI SEO agency that runs digital PR and link building with the site work in one team.

I'm Brenden House, and I run Searchmaxxed. My own selection, so we're first. Read it as one operator's shortlist, not an award, a survey or a measured ranking of client results. I read every agency's own pages on 27 October 2026 (AEST), and the other six are Walker Sands, Clarity, Siege Media, Fractl, uSERP and Archetype. Each wins a specific job.

In summary

  • Digital PR for SEO earns editorial coverage that links to your site or names your brand, so Google and AI answers trust you more.
  • Match the agency to the job. Pipeline-led B2B PR, multi-market tech comms, data-led link earning and pure link building are four different purchases.
  • Ask how they measure. Links, AI citations and enquiries are separate numbers, and 55.4% of digital PR pros now track AI citation mentions (BuzzStream, 2026).
  • Budget. The average digital PR contract runs US$5,458 a month, and agencies average US$6,357.
  • Aim narrow for AI answers. ChatGPT leans on a small set of trusted pages in each category, so get onto those.

Which digital PR agencies made my B2B shortlist?

Seven agencies. Each one publishes B2B results and says on its own site how it measures the work. That's what makes them comparable.

How did I choose them?

Same four tests for everyone, using only what each agency publishes about itself.

  1. Published B2B coverage: named B2B clients, case studies with numbers, or both.
  2. Measurement: whether they report links, AI citations and business results as separate numbers, or blend them into one score.
  3. Process: how a story idea becomes coverage, and how that coverage reaches the pages you need to rank.
  4. Market fit: each one covers Australia or the US, or sells to companies that do.

Guest-post price lists didn't qualify. Google's spam policies list "buying or selling links for ranking purposes" as link spam, and no enterprise brand wants that risk in its backlink profile. Prices come later.

1. Searchmaxxed: best for digital PR tied to the pages that need to rank

Searchmaxxed is an SEO, AI SEO, GEO and AEO agency for enterprise, B2B SaaS, venture-backed, manufacturing and public-sector companies. Digital PR and link building sit in the same plan as your website, technical SEO and content. Every placement points at a page built to win a search.

  • What they sell: link building and digital PR inside our Growth System, Agentic Search Engineering and Custom & Enterprise plans.
  • B2B proof they publish: Searchmaxxed's work has generated more than A$10 million in revenue through search for its clients. We don't publish a client coverage list.
  • How they measure: each placement goes into a log with its live URL. Then we track rankings on the pages it supports, mentions in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and AI Overviews, and referral enquiries.
  • Process: on Agentic Search Engineering, a quarterly proof asset from your own wins, a monthly press release, and continuous digital PR and link campaigns. Each one targets a page that needs to rank. Here's how we run SEO each week.
  • Pricing: quoted per business.
  • Ask them: which of your pages the coverage will support, and why those.

2. Walker Sands: best for narrative-led B2B tech PR

Walker Sands is a B2B marketing and PR agency. It suits a B2B tech brand that wants PR and SEO planned together, with the story built before the pitching starts.

  • What they sell: messaging, data-driven PR, media relations and SEO.
  • B2B proof they publish: case studies for Sophos (cybersecurity), Visier (HR tech) and ZayZoon (fintech).
  • How they measure: they go past mentions and impressions to "narrative share, competitor share-of-voice, SEO + GEO value". Their AI Domain Impact Index scores media domains on five weighted criteria, estimating how likely each outlet is to influence generative AI results.
  • Process: narrative first. Podcasts, Substacks, influencers and analysts sit alongside traditional media.
  • Pricing: not published.
  • Ask them: which outlets score highest on their index for your category.

3. Clarity: best for B2B tech brands measuring AI search visibility

Clarity calls itself "a senior-led marketing and communications consultancy for ambitious B2B technology brands". It has worked with tech brands since 2006 through a 100+-strong global team, and publishes AI search numbers next to its coverage numbers.

  • What they sell: PR, communications, policy communications, GEO, paid media and creative.
  • B2B proof they publish: 87 pieces of coverage in six months for Juniper, with a 43% increase in share of voice. Ankorstore: 923 pieces.
  • How they measure: their monday.com case study reports Google AI Mode visibility up from 5.6% to 12% and AI Overviews from 1.3% to 7%. Citations rose 300%.
  • Process: data-led stories from the client's own research, pitched to high-authority titles as fresh angles over months.
  • Pricing: not published.
  • Ask them: which prompts they track.

Siege Media builds statistics pages, studies and tools that journalists keep citing, then pitches them through what it calls a network of 7,500+ media partners. Good fit for a SaaS company with an expert happy to be quoted.

  • What they sell: content marketing, digital PR, SEO and AI visibility work.
  • B2B proof they publish: for Vena, a finance software company, an "AI Statistics" post earned 434 links, including from HubSpot and USA Today.
  • How they measure: links and AI Overview citations per asset, such as 173 links and 214 AI Overview citations for Vena's "SaaS Statistics" page.
  • Process: product-led, evergreen assets that keep earning links for years, with your internal experts as the spokespeople journalists quote. Their phrase for it is "pouring gasoline on the fire, not creating the fire".
  • Pricing: "around $12-15,000 per month" (US$) to create and promote PR content.
  • Ask them: which of your pages the asset will link to, because links to a statistics post don't always lift a product page.

5. Fractl: best for data journalism campaigns

Fractl runs data journalism and digital PR campaigns for Fortune 500 brands and high-growth companies. Hire them when you have data, or can fund a survey, and want national press coverage built from it over a long campaign.

  • What they sell: data journalism, reactive digital PR, expert quote placement, interactive tools, content libraries and managed SEO.
  • B2B proof they publish: homepage testimonials, including a campaign that "acquired 390 referring domains" and 40 articles in six months for McAfee.
  • How they measure: referring domains, organic traffic and coverage, with "AI visibility" named on their homepage as a goal of the work.
  • Process: original research turned into stories for top-tier media and niche publishers. An always-on sourcing service connects your experts to writers.
  • Pricing: not published.
  • Ask them: which campaigns they've run for B2B buyers like you.

uSERP is a link building agency whose clients include monday.com, CrowdStrike and Freshworks. It reports 575+ clients and 42 published case studies. Choose it when the brief is authority on specific pages rather than a brand story.

  • What they sell: editorial link building, digital PR campaigns, content and SEO.
  • B2B proof they publish: a 78% traffic lift for monday.com and "scaling Nav to $24M ARR".
  • How they measure: every placement has to pass three tests, one of them "AI and LLM cited domains". They review KPIs with you monthly.
  • Process: content-led, bespoke pitches that get your priority pages mentioned in publications already ranking in Google.
  • Pricing: "$5,000 to $25,000+ per month" (US$).
  • Ask them: for the target domain list, and which AI answers already cite those domains.

7. Archetype: best for B2B PR in Australia and APAC

Archetype is a B2B PR agency based in Sydney and connected to an APAC and global network. It suits a technology, SaaS or professional services company that needs Australian media relations and senior counsel in the same team.

  • What they sell: press office, thought leadership, executive profiling, stakeholder communications and issues response.
  • B2B proof they publish: Mailchimp, Shopify, AWS.
  • How they measure: "clear reporting that speaks to marketing, communications and commercial stakeholders".
  • Process: always-on media relations with business, trade and vertical outlets, plus global announcements localised for Australian press.
  • Pricing: not published.
  • Ask them: whether reports cover links and AI citations, or coverage alone.

What does a digital PR agency do?

A digital PR agency gets your company covered by online publications so the coverage builds links, brand mentions and trust in search. It finds or creates a story, pitches journalists and reports what landed.

The vocabulary on a proposal:

  • Digital PR: online coverage, links and mentions, judged partly by what they do for search.
  • Traditional PR: coverage and reputation, judged by reach, sentiment and share of voice.
  • Link building: getting other sites to link to yours, and digital PR is one way to do it.
  • Referring domain: a separate website linking to you, so ten links from one site still count as one referring domain.
  • Unlinked mention: coverage that names you with no link.
  • Reactive PR (newsjacking): fast expert comment on breaking news.
  • Hero content: a big asset, such as a data study, built to earn coverage for months.
  • AI citation: a page that ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Google's AI Overviews shows as a source for its answer.

PR and SEO have mostly merged. In BuzzStream's State of Digital PR 2026, 53.4% of digital PR people said the team they work with most is SEO. Only 10.1% said PR, down from 14.5% in 2025, and data-led pitching was the top tactic at 95.9%.

That's why we run digital PR inside an SEO plan at Searchmaxxed, choosing each story with its target page already in mind.

Yes. Editorial links from relevant publications still help pages rank. AI answers lean on the same trusted third-party pages when they choose which companies to name. For B2B, focus wins. The right ten pages beat a hundred random ones.

Our own testing shows how concentrated AI answers are. Across 900 ChatGPT answers about Australian agencies, a single third-party "best agencies" site was cited in 168 of them. The next three were a second listicle, Semrush's agency directory and Clutch. If you want to be recommended, the job is getting onto the handful of pages the model already trusts.

We ran that test on 2 October 2026, and your category will have its own short list: trade publications, analyst roundups, comparison lists, review sites. Name those pages first.

The industry is catching up, slowly. BuzzStream's 2026 survey found 78.4% of digital PR pros track AI visibility for clients. One expert in the report still calls AI citations "a bonus visibility metric", because answers vary between people. Track both. Links move rankings you can measure; AI citations tell you whether you're on the shortlist a buyer sees.

What doesn't count? Paid links that pass ranking credit. Google's spam policies name "exchanging money for links, or posts that contain links" as link spam. Hence the talk of earned coverage. For the longer case, read our research on whether backlinks still matter.

How much does a digital PR agency cost?

Most digital PR contracts sit under US$10,000 a month, and about half under US$5,000. BuzzStream's digital PR cost survey, updated 12 June 2026, puts the average contract at US$5,458 a month, with agencies at US$6,357 and freelancers at US$4,200.

The type of work sets the price. Their category-weighted midpoints, in US$:

Type of workAverage cost per linkAverage monthly contract
Guest postingUS$150US$2,500
Journalist requestsUS$400US$4,000
Reactive and proactive PRUS$625US$6,000
Hero contentUS$800US$8,000

The average cost per link across all respondents was US$597, rising to US$663 for agencies. Plenty of teams can't answer that question. In the State of Digital PR survey, 39.2% didn't know their cost per link, down from 51.4% a year earlier.

What the agencies on my list publish:

AgencyPublished price
SearchmaxxedNot published; quoted per business
Walker SandsNot published
ClarityNot published
Siege MediaAround US$12,000 to US$15,000 a month for content plus promotion
FractlNot published
uSERPUS$5,000 to US$25,000+ a month
ArchetypeNot published

Each price comes from the agency's own site, read 27 October 2026 (AEST).

Cheap usually means guest posts. Data studies and hero campaigns cost more, because someone has to research, design and pitch them to editors with full inboxes.

How should B2B companies measure digital PR?

Measure three things separately: links to the pages that need to rank, mentions in the AI answers your buyers read, and enquiries or pipeline. One blended "PR score" hides which of the three is working.

Agencies mostly report links today. In BuzzStream's 2026 survey, quality links led at 85.1%, then total mentions at 72.3% and total links at 70.9%. Organic traffic or rankings fell from 78% to 63.5%, while AI citation mentions came in at 55.4% in their first year on the list.

What to measureWhat good looks likeAsk the agency
LinksRelevant publications linking to the pages that sellWhich page does each link point to?
RankingsMovement on those pages for searches that bring pipelineWhich searches, from what baseline?
AI citationsNamed in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and AI Overviews for set buyer questionsWhich questions, which engines, how often?
PipelineEnquiries and deals from search and referralHow do you separate real AI traffic from bots?

That last question matters. Here's what we found on an enterprise B2B client's account. A client's GA4 showed AI-assistant visits jump from 354 to 6,050 in a month. Almost none of it was real. About 5,700 came in three one-hour bursts: same 1920x1080 desktop Chrome, all new users, no referrer, about 20 seconds each, landing on two pages. Real AI traffic was 385 sessions against 354 the month before, roughly flat.

A PR report built on that chart would have claimed a huge win. So at Searchmaxxed every placement carries a live URL in the log, and we check enquiries and AI answers directly instead of trusting a chart. Our guide on how to rank in ChatGPT covers what those engines pull from.

How do you choose a B2B digital PR agency?

Start with the job, then test each agency on coverage, measurement and process. Most bad hires come from buying a consumer-style link campaign for a B2B problem, or a press office for a search problem.

A worked example: B2B SaaS selling into Australia and the US

Take a venture-backed HR software company. It wants to rank for "payroll software for enterprises" in both markets and to show up when a buyer asks ChatGPT for a shortlist.

Its search problem is two pages: a product page and a comparison page. Its AI problem is a short list of roundups, review sites and trade publications that the engines already cite for payroll software. A launch-style press office would win coverage that links to neither page. A pure link vendor would build links but never get the company onto those roundups.

The brief that works names both targets. Coverage that links to the product and comparison pages, plus placements on the pages AI answers already cite. Then a monthly report with four separate numbers: links, rankings, AI answers, demo requests.

Before you sign, ask every agency:

  1. Show me B2B coverage you've earned in the last 12 months, with live URLs.
  2. Which pages will it link to?
  3. Which buyer questions and AI engines will you track, and how often?
  4. What happens if month two lands nothing?
  5. Who writes the pitches, and which of my people do you need as experts?
  6. Do you ever pay for placements?

Is Searchmaxxed right for you?

Searchmaxxed suits marketing and growth leaders at enterprise, B2B SaaS, venture-backed, manufacturing and public-sector companies. It's built for teams that want digital PR and SEO run together, with results reported as links, rankings, AI answers and enquiries.

Here's how we do it. We build on a website you own, our Agentic Website. AI agents pull your Search Console and GA4 data, read the Google results and check what AI answers say about you and your competitors. That feeds the Managed Search Loop, which shows which page, fix or link should bring in the most enquiries next. Off your site, the Off-Page Source Layer earns the links, coverage and mentions those answers draw on. Full detail lives on our link building and digital PR service page. The off-page SEO page explains the rest.

How much off-site work each plan includes:

PlanDigital PR and link work included
Growth SystemOne qualified link action a month, AI visibility tracking, 30 page releases
Agentic Search EngineeringContinuous digital PR and link campaigns, a monthly press release, a quarterly proof asset from your own wins, AI answer tracking across four engines
Custom & EnterpriseSeveral markets, dedicated engineering, custom reporting and original first-party research
Searchmaxxed is a good fit ifLook elsewhere if
You want coverage that links to pages built to rankYou need crisis comms, policy work or analyst relations
You want links, AI citations and enquiries reported separatelyYou need a press office for a launch next month
You compete in a crowded national or multi-market categoryYou want PR with no website or SEO work attached
You want direct access to the people doing the workYou want links bought from a price list

Right-hand column? Clarity, Walker Sands or Archetype will serve a comms-led brief better, and uSERP fits a links-only one.

Frequently asked questions

What does a digital PR agency do?

A digital PR agency earns coverage for your company in online publications. That coverage builds links, brand mentions and trust with search engines and AI answers. The agency finds or creates a story, pitches journalists, then reports which pieces ran and what they linked to.

How much does a digital PR agency cost?

Most digital PR retainers sit under US$10,000 a month. BuzzStream's 2026 cost survey puts the average agency contract at US$6,357 a month, and the average agency cost per link at US$663. Data studies and hero campaigns sit at the top of that range.

Is digital PR worth it for B2B companies?

Yes, when the coverage links to pages that sell and lands where buyers and AI answers look. A mention in a trusted trade publication or roundup keeps working long after the campaign ends, which suits long B2B buying cycles.

What's the difference between digital PR and link building?

Link building is the goal of getting other sites to link to you. Digital PR is one way to reach it, through stories journalists choose to cover, alongside outreach to relevant sites and unlinked mention recovery.

Does digital PR help you get mentioned in ChatGPT?

It can. AI answers draw on third-party pages they trust, and our own ChatGPT test shows how few pages carry most of the weight. Coverage on the pages your category's answers already cite gives you the best chance.

How long does digital PR take to work?

First coverage comes fast: 81% of digital PR pros in BuzzStream's 2026 survey secure it within a week. Rankings and AI answers take longer. Judge a campaign on a quarter.

Should B2B companies hire a digital PR agency or build in-house?

Hire an agency when you need media relationships and campaign production now, and build in-house when you can keep a person busy every month. Many B2B teams keep one in-house expert for approvals and pay an agency for production and outreach.

What should you do next?

Write down the five searches and the five AI buyer questions you most want to win. Then ask every agency on your shortlist which pages its coverage will link to, and how it will report links, AI citations and enquiries. If you want us to scope digital PR and SEO for your company, let's talk pricing.
