- My pick is Searchmaxxed, for owners who want pages built, the Business Profile run and Google plus AI answers tracked, on a site they own.
- For a known entry price, look at Localsearch (from A$499 a month plus GST) or SEO for Small Business Australia (from about A$450).
- To buy a fixed number of hours each month, look at Business Medics, which sells 5.5 hours for A$1,200 a month.
- Published prices on these sites run from about A$450 to A$3,000+ a month. The work matters more than the number.
- Before you sign, ask two things: which pages they'll build in month one, and how they'll count the calls you get.
The best SEO agency for a small business builds a page for each job your customers search and runs your Google Business Profile. It wins you more genuine reviews, then shows you the calls that come from all of it, so you can see what the work earns. My pick is Searchmaxxed. Searchmaxxed is an SEO and AI SEO agency, and I'm Brenden House, the person who runs it, so I put it first. This is my own selection. No independent award, survey or client-satisfaction score sits behind it.
The other seven each earn a place. Localsearch and SEO for Small Business Australia both publish small-business prices on their sites, and both name the terms that come with them. Business Medics publishes a fixed-hours package. StudioHawk, Digital Nomads HQ, DGreat Solutions and Bambrick each suit a different kind of owner, and I've said which one below.
Which SEO agencies for small business made my shortlist?
Eight agencies made the list. Each row uses only what that agency publishes.
| Agency | Best for | Published pricing | AI search offer |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Searchmaxxed | Pages, profile and reviews built on a site you own | Let's talk pricing | AEO and GEO in every managed package |
| 2. Localsearch | Local businesses wanting a known entry price | From A$499/month + GST, 6-month minimum | Add-on, listed as coming soon |
| 3. SEO for Small Business Australia | Small businesses wanting a small-business specialist | From about A$450/month for low competition | GEO and AEO inside normal SEO |
| 4. Business Medics | Owners who want to buy set hours | A$1,200/month for 5.5 hours | None published |
| 5. StudioHawk | Small businesses ready to grow into a larger campaign | Not published | Separate AI SEO service |
| 6. Digital Nomads HQ | Owners who want SEO beside social media and Meta ads | A$1,000 to A$3,000+/month (their guide) | Free AI search audit tool |
| 7. DGreat Solutions | Adelaide small businesses wanting a local team | Not published | None published |
| 8. Bambrick | Brisbane businesses wanting a long-running agency | Not published | None published |
How did I choose them?
I started with the agencies Google Australia shows when an owner searches for small business SEO help or a small business SEO agency. Then I cut it to the ones with a real small-business offer: a page, package or price for owners like you. I judged them all on five things:
- A small-business offer. More than one line on the homepage.
- Small-business proof. Case studies or named clients a small owner would recognise, which I quote here as the agency's own claim and nothing more.
- Price and terms. A published price, term or notice period.
- Who does the work. Whether you deal with the specialist doing the work, an account manager passing messages along, or a rep.
- AI search. A clear offer for Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity, rather than a passing mention buried on a services page.
I read every agency's own pages on 26 October 2026 (AEST). Prices change. Check each on the day you call. I run the agency at number one, and the order of the other seven carries no score, rank or rating of any kind.
1. Searchmaxxed: best for small businesses that want pages, profile and reviews built on a site they own
Searchmaxxed is an SEO, AI SEO, GEO and AEO agency. For a small business, that means a page for each job and area your customers search, daily Business Profile management and more genuine reviews. It suits owners who want enquiries.
- Who does the work: I set the direction on every account, read the weekly evidence, write the money pages and approve everything that ships. No account managers sit in between.
- What they sell: Local Search, for local businesses. It includes at least 8 page releases a month, daily Business Profile management, the review engine, local links, citation cleanup and a monthly geo-grid scan. Our small business SEO page has the rest.
- Proof they publish: Before Searchmaxxed, I built Radiant Roof Repairs from zero to more than A$1 million a year in revenue using SEO as the only marketing channel. Three high-intent Gold Coast roofing searches reached number one within 90 days. Searchmaxxed's work has generated more than A$10 million in revenue through search for its clients.
- Pricing: Let's talk pricing. Terms are monthly, six-month or 12-month, agreed on the call.
- AI search: AEO and GEO come inside every managed package, and Local Search includes local AI answer tracking. The Managed Search Loop explains how your own data decides which page, fix or link we build first, and in what order.
- Ask them: Which pages will you build in month one, which search is each one for, and how will you count the calls?
2. Localsearch: best for local businesses that want a known entry price
Localsearch suits a suburb-based business wanting a known starting price. Its SEO page lists a keyword strategy, website audit, on-page and technical fixes, content, backlinks, blog posts, schema markup and a live dashboard. By its own account, first fixes land in month one. Most campaigns see ranking movement from around month three, it says, which gives you a fair date to judge progress by.
- Who does the work: A named specialist. "You get a named local SEO specialist, not a ticket queue," the page says, and it also mentions local reps across 75+ Australian markets.
- What they sell: Local SEO campaigns. Google Business Profile management, Google Ads and websites are separate products you buy on top.
- Proof they publish: It claims "15,000+ Aussie SMBs across the country" and "4.9 from 1,144 Google reviews". Its client highlight says PT Trade Supplies reached "number 1 on Google on the Mid North Coast", after a new website and ongoing SEO.
- Pricing: From A$499 a month plus GST. There's a 6-month minimum term and a one-off setup fee depending on scope.
- AI search: An AI Optimisation add-on for SEO clients, listed as "coming soon".
- Ask them: Is Business Profile management inside my A$499?
3. SEO for Small Business Australia: best for owners who want a small-business specialist
SEO for Small Business Australia sells to small businesses and nothing else. Its price brackets follow how competitive your industry is, from niche and low-competition work up to the most crowded markets. Its testimonials come from named small businesses, and many of them talk about working with Bill directly.
- Who does the work: An in-house team. It says every campaign "is run in-house by our own Australian team", with "over 25 years of SEO experience". Its map shows offices in Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane and Melbourne.
- What they sell: Keyword research, on-page SEO, content, technical work, local SEO and plain-English monthly reports. It promises "no tiered keyword caps".
- Proof they publish: Case studies on Allsports Physiotherapy, My FootDr and Jacana Supervision. It says Jacana became findable "through both Google and ChatGPT".
- Pricing: From around A$450 to A$1,500 a month for niche, low-competition or limited-budget businesses, rising to A$4,500+ for the most competitive. No lock-in contracts; one month's notice. GST not stated.
- AI search: GEO and AEO are "not sold as a separate specialty, just part of doing SEO properly".
- Ask them: Which bracket does my industry sit in?
4. Business Medics: best for owners who want to buy a set number of hours
Business Medics suits an owner who likes to know exactly how much time they're paying for each month. Its Impact Package is labelled for small businesses. It lists the hours, the tasks and what costs extra, and a Flexi package lets you pick your own hours, with at least three recommended.
- Who does the work: It says its SEO team is "based in Sydney" and that "We Are SEO Specialists, Not Account Managers".
- What they sell: The Impact Package. It includes a technical audit, keyword research, Google Analytics setup, a reporting dashboard, on-page work, Google My Business and content strategy.
- Proof they publish: Client profiles such as Hand Therapy Experts and Breeze Removals, alongside a claim of "100+ Partnerships To Date" on its small-business page.
- Pricing: A$1,200 a month for 5.5 hours, paid monthly with no contract. Blog posts cost extra, and the page doesn't state GST.
- AI search: None published.
- Ask them: Out of my 5.5 hours, how many go into building new pages rather than audits, reports and calls?
5. StudioHawk: best for small businesses ready to grow into a bigger campaign
StudioHawk suits a small business with room in the budget and plans to scale. Its small-business page leads with numbered case studies. It also says it doesn't start fees high, though it publishes none, so you'll only learn the number on a call.
- Who does the work: Specialists, by its account. "No account managers, only specialists," it says, and its contact form promises "No middlemen. No juniors."
- What they sell: Small-business link building, search-intent content and local SEO, plus technical SEO, digital PR and ecommerce SEO.
- Proof they publish: It claims to be "averaging 300% ROI". Its Bell & Bone case study shows a 160% organic traffic increase, and its Waverley Forklifts case study a 555% increase in organic traffic.
- Pricing: Not published. The lowest budget option on its enquiry form is "Below $3000" a month, and it says there are "No long-term lock-in contracts".
- AI search: A separate AI SEO service. Its small-business audit covers "SEO & AI".
- Ask them: What would my first three months cost, and what would you build in them?
6. Digital Nomads HQ: best for owners who want SEO beside social media and Meta ads
Digital Nomads HQ suits a small business that may want SEO, social media and Meta ads from one agency. Its page shows named team members. Its four steps run from discovery and audit, through planning and implementation, to monthly reporting and ongoing optimisation.
- Who does the work: An in-house team, with staff such as its head of development pictured on the page.
- What they sell: Small-business SEO. Its page also shows a Meta leads case study and a client review praising its social media work.
- Proof they publish: It claims 300+ SEO campaigns and 97% client retention. Its Air Charter Network case study reports traffic tripled and "92 pages cited by AI search in nine months".
- Pricing: Its FAQ says small-business SEO costs between A$1,000 and A$3,000+ a month. No package price.
- AI search: A free AI search audit that it says takes "Sixty seconds, no signup".
- Ask them: Where in that A$1,000 to A$3,000+ range would my business sit, and what would push it higher?
7. DGreat Solutions: best for Adelaide small businesses that want a local team
DGreat Solutions suits an Adelaide owner who wants to meet the people doing the work. Its small-business page covers keyword and competitor research, on-page content, technical audits, local SEO and link building. It pitches itself against "the big-agency price tag".
- Who does the work: A local team. It describes a "Local Adelaide SEO team" with "10+ years of SEO experience".
- What they sell: Small-business SEO, Google Ads, social media and web design.
- Proof they publish: Case studies for Adelaide businesses including Avvini Athletica, Complete Tutoring and Adelaide Rubbish. Its Google rating reads "5.0 out of 5 based on 21 reviews".
- Pricing: Not published. It offers "No lock-in contracts" and clear monthly reporting.
- AI search: None on its small-business page.
- Ask them: Can I see the numbers behind the Adelaide Rubbish case study, including the leads it reports?
8. Bambrick: best for Brisbane businesses that want a long-running agency
Bambrick suits Brisbane owners wanting an established team. It says it has helped local businesses "for over 20 years". Its about page describes a team of "30(ish) strategists, analysts, creators and communicators". That team covers strategy, analysis, content and communications.
- Who does the work: A Brisbane team. By its own account, it started with small businesses there and now works Australia-wide.
- What they sell: Small-business packages built around local SEO and on-page SEO, starting with a free strategy session.
- Proof they publish: A testimonial from Eagers Automotive, which says it is "mostly ranked as number one" across its group.
- Pricing: Not published. It says cost "depends entirely on how many keywords you want to target, and how many areas you want to rank in".
- AI search: None on its small-business page.
- Ask them: How many keywords and areas would my starting budget cover?
What should a small business get from an SEO agency each month?
You should get changes you can see on your own site and profile, and a report that counts calls and forms. Rankings matter because they bring enquiries. That's all. Most of it falls into five parts.
| Work | What it looks like | Why it brings customers |
|---|---|---|
| Pages for each buying search | A page for each job, and for each area worth its own page | Someone searching "blocked drain plumber" wants a page about blocked drains |
| Google Business Profile | Services, photos, posts and accurate details | Google ranks local results mainly on "relevance, distance, and popularity" |
| Reviews | A request after every job, and replies to every review | Google says positive reviews and helpful replies help a business stand out |
| Technical fixes | Speed, mobile, indexing, schema and internal links | Google can't rank a page it can't crawl or understand |
| Reporting | Calls, forms and booked jobs beside rankings | You can see whether the spend pays back |
How much does SEO cost for a small business in Australia?
Published small-business SEO prices on these agencies' sites run from about A$450 to A$3,000+ a month. Price depends on your industry's competition, your number of services and areas, and the volume of building work an agency takes on for you. Four of the eight publish a figure.
| Agency | Published price | Minimum term (as published) | GST |
|---|---|---|---|
| SEO for Small Business Australia | From about A$450 to A$1,500/month (low competition) | One month's notice | Not stated |
| Localsearch | From A$499/month, plus a setup fee | 6 months | Excluded |
| Business Medics | A$1,200/month for 5.5 hours | No contract | Not stated |
| Digital Nomads HQ | A$1,000 to A$3,000+/month (their guide) | Not published | Not stated |
| StudioHawk | Not published (form starts at "Below $3000") | No long-term lock-in | Not stated |
| DGreat Solutions | Not published | No lock-in | Not stated |
| Bambrick | Not published | Not published | Not stated |
| Searchmaxxed | Let's talk pricing | Monthly, six-month or 12-month | Quoted per business |
Each row is one agency's own offer as of 26 October 2026, and together they don't make a national average. For a deeper breakdown by type of work, from technical fixes to links and content, see my guide to how much SEO costs.
Cheap and good rarely meet. The cheapest quote and the best value usually come from different agencies, so price SEO against what one customer is worth to you. If an average job brings in a few thousand dollars, one extra job a month changes the whole sum.
What review and advertising rules should your SEO agency know?
Your agency should know the Australian Consumer Law on reviews and Google's own review rules, because the penalty lands on your business. Several packages here include review work, ours among them.
The ACCC says it's against the law for a business to create fake or misleading reviews, or to arrange for others to do so. Reviews can mislead if family, staff or anyone paid by the business writes them without stating the connection. So can suppressing or editing negative reviews. The Federal Court ordered Service Seeking to pay A$600,000 in penalties after it let businesses draft their own reviews.
Google's rules go further. Its Maps policy bans offering "payment, discounts, free goods and/or services" in exchange for a review. It also removes reviews that show "unusual volumes or patterns" of contributions, so a sudden burst of five-star reviews can vanish.
What that means in practice:
- Ask every customer for a review after the job, whether they seemed happy with the work or not, and ask them all the same way.
- Offer nothing in return.
- Reply to negative reviews instead of trying to bury them.
- Ask the agency who writes any testimonials it puts on your site, and how it checks the customer said those words.
A good agency raises this first.
How do you choose the right SEO agency for your small business?
Choose the agency that shows you what it will build. It should have done the same work for businesses like yours, and it should measure your calls, forms and booked jobs every month. Google's own advice on hiring an SEO suggests asking for examples of previous work and success stories. It also suggests asking about experience in your industry, and whether they'll share every change they make to your site.
Use this checklist on every call:
- Month one: Which pages, profile changes and fixes will you ship in the first month?
- Proof: Show me a business like mine that you've helped, with the numbers, the client's name and someone there I can ring to check.
- Who: Who writes my pages?
- Ownership: Do I own the site, the content and the Google Analytics account?
- Measurement: How will you count my calls?
- Reviews: How do you ask for reviews without breaking the ACCC or Google rules?
- AI search: How will you track what ChatGPT and Google's AI answers say about me?
The measurement question matters most. A client's four enquiry types never counted as conversions. Their event names ran 41 to 50 characters; GA4 cuts at 40. The 40-character "career" event counted every time. Nobody had noticed, because the events still showed up.
If an agency's report can't tell you how many people called last month, you can't tell whether the money you're spending is working.
Is SEO worth it for a small business?
Yes, when people search for what you sell in the area you serve. A ranking keeps bringing calls month after month, and nobody charges you per click, which is why it suits steady local demand. It works less well for a product nobody searches for yet, where ads or word of mouth will usually find customers faster.
I learnt this from my own business, before Searchmaxxed. I built Radiant Roof Repairs. A mate did the roofs; I did the marketing, sales and operations. When we reached the map pack it was phone call after phone call: 1,487 calls came off our Google Business Profile. Most of that came through Google Maps. Finding people to do the work became the hard part. The full story, with the screenshots, is in the Radiant Roof Repairs case study on our site.
Do you need an SEO agency in your own city?
Not usually. Most small-business SEO work happens on your website and your Business Profile, so an agency can do it from anywhere in Australia. What matters is that it studies your local search results and the competitors who beat you there.

Frequently asked questions
Which SEO company is best for a small business?
The best SEO company for a small business builds pages for the searches your customers make, manages your Google Business Profile and reports on calls. My pick is Searchmaxxed, which I run. Localsearch and SEO for Small Business Australia suit owners who want a published entry price.
How much should a small business pay for SEO in Australia?
Published small-business SEO prices on the agencies in this list run from about A$450 to A$3,000+ a month. Low-competition businesses sit at the bottom. Busy trades and big cities cost more.
How long does SEO take for a small business?
Most small businesses see early movement in the first three months and steadier results after six. Localsearch, for example, says most campaigns see ranking movement from around month three. Competitive industries take longer.
Can I do SEO for my small business myself?
Yes, you can do the basics yourself: a page for each service, an accurate Google Business Profile and a review request after every job. An agency earns its fee when you need more pages, technical fixes and links than you have time to build.
What's the difference between SEO and local SEO?
Local SEO is the part of SEO that wins searches in your area, through your Google Business Profile, reviews, citations and suburb pages. General SEO covers your whole website and searches without a place in them. Most small businesses need both.
Does SEO still work now that Google shows AI answers?
Yes. Google says you can apply the same foundational SEO best practices for its AI features as for Google Search overall. Ask your agency how it tracks your rankings and what AI answers say about you.
What should I ask an SEO agency before I sign?
Ask which pages they will build in month one, who will write them, and how they will count your calls. Ask to see results for a business like yours. Check that you'll own your site, your content and your analytics accounts, even if you leave the agency later.
What's the next step?
Pick two or three agencies from this list. Ask each one the same question: which pages will you build for my business in the first month? The answers will tell you more than any sales deck. If you'd like Searchmaxxed's answer for your business, let's talk.
