- The cheapest ways in are AthenaHQ Essential, free with 300 credits, Rankscale Essentials from $20 monthly and OtterlyAI Lite at $29.[2][6][1]
- AthenaHQ Starter lists 11 models, the longest self-serve list here. Rankscale Pro names ten engines.[2][6]
- Frase and Writesonic suit content teams, because both pair tracking with AI articles and audits.[4][7]
- No tool can show what one real buyer saw, because ChatGPT and Perplexity personalise answers.[8]
- A tool shows where you stand. At Searchmaxxed we do agentic SEO: our agents feed that kind of data into the Managed Search Loop, and we ship the fixes.
GEO tools, short for generative engine optimization tools, run your chosen prompts through AI answer engines. They report where your brand appears and which sources the engines cite. For a cheap start, pick OtterlyAI Lite at $29, billed monthly.[1] To test free first, try AthenaHQ's Essential plan.[2] For daily tracking on three models, Peec AI starts at €85/mo.[3] Content teams should look at Frase, from $39 monthly billed yearly.[4] Teams already on an SEO platform get AI tracking inside SE Ranking Core.[5] I run Searchmaxxed, an agentic SEO team, and this list is my own selection.
Which GEO tools made my shortlist?
These are the 10 GEO tools I would compare first in 2026. Each price comes from the vendor's own pricing page on 28 September 2026. Peec AI prices in euros, while ZipTie and Frase state USD.[3][9][4] The other vendors show a $ sign without naming a currency on the pages I captured. Billing units appear as published.

How did I choose these GEO tools?
I started from the AI visibility tools that keep appearing in ranked lists and search results for this topic. Then I read each vendor's own pricing and product pages on 28 September 2026.
This is my selection from published plans, not a survey or an award. I didn't test data accuracy, and the numbering carries no quality ranking.
1. Peec AI: best for daily tracking on chosen models
Peec AI suits a team that wants the same prompts run daily on a few models. It runs each prompt once every 24 hours on every model you select.[12] Starter covers 50 prompts, three models and unlimited users.[3]
- What it does: It tracks brand mentions, sentiment and the sources ChatGPT uses. It also shows query fan-outs, the hidden follow-up searches ChatGPT runs behind an answer.[13]
- Engines tracked: Starter lets you choose three models from ChatGPT, AI Mode, AI Overviews, Copilot, Gemini and Naver AI. Enterprise tracks up to 13.[3]
- Starting price: Starter is €85/mo on monthly billing, and annual billing takes 15% off.[3]
- Free trial: Yes, the pricing page offers a free trial. The page I captured gives no trial length.[3]
- What it cannot do: Starter holds three models, and each extra Starter model adds €25/mo on annual billing. Looker Studio, Google's dashboard tool, starts on Advanced, and API access on Enterprise.[3]
- Best for: SEO and content managers getting started with AI search visibility, in Peec AI's own description of Starter.[3]
2. OtterlyAI: best for a low-cost start
OtterlyAI keeps the entry price low and includes four engines on its smallest plan. Lite costs $29 on monthly billing, or $25 monthly on annual billing, for 15 search prompts tracked daily.[1]
- What it does: It gives link citation analysis, a GEO audit, an AI prompt research tool and support for 50+ countries.[1]
- Engines tracked: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot come included. Claude, Google AI Mode and Gemini are extra add-ons.[1]
- Starting price: Lite costs $29, billed monthly. Standard costs $189 monthly and adds API and MCP access, which let other software and AI assistants pull your data.[1]
- Free trial: The homepage FAQ offers a 7-day free trial with no credit card. A button on the same page says 14 days.[8]
- What it cannot do: Fifteen prompts cover one narrow topic. Adding Gemini, AI Mode or Claude raises the monthly cost.[1]
- Best for: Solo marketers and small teams, in OtterlyAI's words. Premium, at $489 monthly, targets mid-sized companies and agencies.[1]
3. Rankscale: best for credit-based tracking across many engines
Rankscale sells credits instead of fixed prompt counts. Pro includes 1,200 credits each month.[6] Its own example runs 50 prompts weekly at 0.75 credits a run, which spends 162.5 credits a month.[6]
- What it does: It tracks brand visibility and citations. It also analyses shopping results and sponsored ads in ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Copilot.[6]
- Engines tracked: Pro names ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, AI Overviews, Gemini, DeepSeek, Mistral, Claude, Grok and Copilot.[6]
- Starting price: Essentials starts at $20 monthly and Pro at $99 monthly. Yearly billing saves 15% on the plans I captured.[6]
- Free trial: Pro offers 7 days free, with no charge until day 7.[6]
- What it cannot do: Each run spends credits, so more engines or a tighter schedule drains a plan faster. I didn't capture the engine list or credit count for Essentials.[6]
- Best for: Teams that want Grok, DeepSeek and Mistral beside the big engines, on schedules from hourly to monthly.[6]
4. ZipTie: best for configurable plans and raw data
ZipTie builds a plan from settings instead of fixed tiers. The Starter preset estimates $42.75 monthly, and every engine, cadence and add-on stays editable.[9] Its FAQ states the sampling problem plainly: "A single AI answer is a sample, not a fact".[14]
- What it does: Its API and MCP add-on exposes every prompt, response, mention, citation and sentiment score. Google AI Overviews checks also capture Google's top-10 organic results.[9]
- Engines tracked: The trial covers ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity. Paid plans add Google AI Mode, Microsoft Copilot, Bing AI Overview and Google Gemini.[9]
- Starting price: From $42.75 monthly, estimated, on the Starter preset, charged in US dollars. API and MCP access adds $10 monthly.[9]
- Free trial: Yes, 7 days with 25 daily prompts, no card and no auto-billing.[9]
- What it cannot do: ZipTie doesn't issue refunds, and the API stays off during the trial. Content generation costs another $20 monthly for each context.[9]
- Best for: Analysts who want raw responses in their own dashboards through the REST API or MCP.[9]
5. SE Ranking: best for teams already on an SEO platform
SE Ranking adds AI tracking to a full SEO platform, so rank tracking, audits and backlinks sit beside AI answers. Core itself includes 100 prompts tracked daily across 5 LLMs.[5]
- What it does: It pairs rank tracking, site audits and backlink research with AI prompt tracking and AI source tracking.[5]
- Engines tracked: Core lists 5 LLMs without naming them in my capture. The AI Search add-on names AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity and ChatGPT.[5]
- Starting price: Core shows $129.00 and $103.20 monthly beside a switch where annual billing saves 20%. The AI Search add-on costs $89.00 on monthly billing or $71.20 on annual billing for 200 prompts.[5]
- Free trial: Yes, 14 days with no credit card, including 20 AI prompts a day.[5]
- What it cannot do: Core's AI tracking stops at 100 daily prompts, so larger prompt sets need the add-on. The Agency Pack costs $69.00 monthly, on annual billing only.[5]
- Best for: Marketing teams already tracking rankings. SE Ranking pitches Core as "SEO + GEO for marketing teams with repeatable delivery".[5]
6. Frase: best for content teams that write and track
Frase is a content platform first, with AI Visibility inside every plan. Starter costs $39 monthly billed yearly, or $49 month to month.[4]
- What it does: It drafts articles, audits pages and gives SEO and GEO scores. Its agent can publish on its own when you let it.[4]
- Engines tracked: Starter tracks ChatGPT and Google AI. Professional adds Perplexity, and Scale adds Claude and Gemini.[4]
- Starting price: $39 monthly billed yearly, or $49 month to month, in USD.[4]
- Free trial: Yes, 7 days with no credit card.[4]
- What it cannot do: Starter covers 1 seat, 1 site and 50 tracked prompts. Frase's own table says "AI Visibility does not auto-fix".[4]
- Best for: Solos, freelancers and single-site teams, in Frase's words. MCP and CLI access from Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or Cursor comes on every plan.[4]
7. Writesonic: best for tracking plus AI articles
Writesonic pairs AI visibility tracking with AI articles, site audits and agents. Starter costs $79 monthly, billed annually, for 50 prompts and 50 answers tracked daily.[7]
- What it does: It tracks brand visibility, monitors ads and writes AI articles. Starter includes 15 AI articles a month and 10 site audits.[7]
- Engines tracked: Starter, Basic and Growth track ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Enterprise tracks all 10 AI platforms Writesonic covers.[7]
- Starting price: Starter costs $79 monthly, billed annually. Basic and Growth cost $199 and $399 on the same basis.[7]
- Free trial: Yes, and the page says you can start free with no credit card.[7]
- What it cannot do: Starter covers 1 user and 1 project. Sentiment analysis starts on Growth, and the full Action Center sits on Enterprise.[7]
- Best for: Marketing teams that want content production and tracking under one login.[7]
8. AthenaHQ: best for the widest self-serve model list
AthenaHQ prices by credit, and one credit equals one AI response.[2] Essential is free with 300 credits, and Starter costs $295 monthly for 3,600 credits across 11 models.[2]
- What it does: It tracks visibility, sources and competitors, and it tests prompt variations with conversation context. Starter adds on-page and off-page actions and a content optimisation agent.[2]
- Engines tracked: Essential covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, Gemini and Copilot. Starter adds AI Mode, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral.[2]
- Starting price: Essential is free with $25 of free credit, and Starter costs $295 monthly. Annual billing takes 17% off.[2]
- Free trial: No trial offer appears on the pricing page I captured. The free Essential plan lets you test it first.[2]
- What it cannot do: Starter covers a single language and region. API access and extra credits cost extra, and their price is not published on the pricing page we captured.[2]
- Best for: Self-guided small businesses on Starter, in AthenaHQ's words. Enterprise targets enterprises and agencies.[2]
9. Scrunch: best for citation data and site audits
Scrunch pairs AI answer monitoring with site audits and an agent experience platform. Core costs $250 monthly for 125 unique prompts, five site audits a month and four LLMs.[10] Enterprise adds wider model coverage and API access.[10]
- What it does: It shows the domains and URLs that appear most in your tracked answers. In Scrunch's words, it can "Reveal which domains and URLs are cited most often across the AI answers you’re tracking".[15]
- Engines tracked: Core covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AIO and Copilot. Enterprise supports 9 LLMs, adding Claude, Gemini, Meta AI, Google AI Mode and Grok.[10]
- Starting price: Core costs $250 monthly. The Enterprise price is not published on the pricing page we captured.[10]
- Free trial: Yes, 7 days on Core.[10]
- What it cannot do: Core covers 1 country, 1 persona, 1 language and 5 competitors. Looker Studio and API access sit on Enterprise.[10]
- Best for: Teams that want an AI visibility benchmark before they scale, as Scrunch pitches Core.[10] Scrunch also states SOC 2 Type II certification, a security audit standard, on its homepage.[16]
10. Goodie: best for tracking, writing and attribution in one place
Goodie sells a full AEO (answer engine optimization) stack: prompt research, monitoring, an AEO writer and revenue attribution. It says it measures visibility daily through scaled, intentional prompting.[11] Core costs $399 monthly for 120 prompts and five core models.[11]
- What it does: It covers monthly prompt research, visibility monitoring, optimisation actions and an AEO writer.[11][17] Core adds direct revenue attribution, MCP and 50 optimizations a month.[11]
- Engines tracked: Core tracks ChatGPT, AI Overview, Perplexity, AI Mode and Copilot. Pro tracks eight models, and Enterprise up to 13.[11]
- Starting price: Core costs $399 monthly, and Pro costs $999 monthly. Agency Growth costs $275 monthly, billed quarterly or annually.[11]
- Free trial: Yes, 7 days on Core.[11]
- What it cannot do: Core holds 120 prompts, and tailored prompt volume starts on Enterprise. Each agency client you win needs its own brand plan from $399.[11]
- Best for: Teams that want tracking, content and attribution from one vendor, with 5 seats and AEO strategist support on Core.[11]
What can GEO tools measure, and what can't they tell you?
GEO tools measure how often a brand appears and which sources get cited, across prompts you choose. They can't show what one buyer saw.
Every answer is one sample
AI answers change from run to run. ZipTie says "the same prompt can vary cycle to cycle", so it builds trends across many measurements.[14] Peec AI runs each prompt once every 24 hours on each selected model.[12] Rankscale lets you schedule runs from hourly to monthly.[6] Watch the direction over weeks, and treat a one-day jump as noise until it holds.
Your buyer's screen differs from the tool's
ChatGPT and Perplexity store information about the user and their search history, and they use location to personalise answers.[8] A tool aims for neutral checks, so its answer can differ from your buyer's.
Your prompt list sets the answer
Most plans cap the prompts they track: 15 on OtterlyAI Lite, 50 on Peec AI Starter, 120 on Goodie Core and 125 on Scrunch Core.[1][3][11][10] The tool reports only on the questions you give it. Pick prompts your buyers would never type, and you get a precise score for the wrong market.
Google's AI features vary by design
Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode "may use different models and techniques, so the set of responses and links they show will vary".[18] AI Overviews also "often don't trigger", because Google shows them only when it judges them additive.[18] Search Console includes AI Overviews and AI Mode in its Performance report, within the Web search type.[18]
Access comes before visibility
OpenAI states that sites opted out of OAI-SearchBot "will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers".[19] Google needs a page indexed and eligible for a snippet before it can appear as a supporting link.[18] Check robots.txt, your CDN (the network that serves your site) and indexing first.
How should you choose a GEO tool?
Buy the smallest plan that covers your prompts on your buyers' engines. Work through these checks in order:
- List the questions your customers type. Pull them from sales calls, support tickets and Search Console.
- Match engines to your buyers. Check whether AI Mode, Gemini or Claude cost extra on the plan you want.
- Check cadence, markets and exports. Confirm run frequency, countries, languages and any API or Looker Studio connector you need.
- Run the trial on your own prompts. Compare the tool's answers with a few manual checks from your target market.
- Keep Search Console open beside it. Google includes AI feature traffic there.[18]
What AI SEO is covers the basics. Our guide to ChatGPT citations covers the page and source work a tracker can't do for you.
When does a managed service fit better than a GEO tool?
A managed service fits when you have the numbers and nobody to act on them.
At Searchmaxxed, we do agentic SEO. We build AI agents that plug into your whole Search Console and GA4, Google's analytics tool. Every week they scrape your competitors' sites and read the Google results. They also check what AI answers say about you.
That data feeds our Managed Search Loop. It checks everything against your plan and picks the next best job. We build the on-page work on your Agentic Website: new pages, fixes, schema (code that labels your facts for search engines) and internal links. The site lives on GitHub and Vercel, and you own it. We build the off-page work through our Off-Page Source Layer: links, reviews, citations, press and mentions on other sites. A person checks every change before it goes live. Then the agents measure what it did, and the loop picks the next job.
Before Searchmaxxed, I built Radiant Roof Repairs on the Gold Coast from zero to more than A$1 million a year. SEO was its only marketing channel. I ran those steps by hand, and our agents now run them every week. By my own count, our work has generated more than A$10 million in revenue through search across our client book.
We're a Queensland team. We work with companies across Australia and take on companies beyond it. GEO and AEO come inside our managed packages: Local Search, the Growth System, Agentic Search Engineering and Custom & Enterprise. See GEO, AEO and AI search optimization for the scope, and our packages for what each includes. Let's talk pricing.
Frequently asked questions
What is a GEO tool?
A GEO tool runs a set of prompts through AI answer engines and records whether your brand appears. It also records which sources the engines cite. Every tool in this list tracks ChatGPT, and many add sentiment and competitor share.[3][1][5]
What is the best GEO tool?
The best GEO tool covers your prompts on the engines your buyers use, at a cadence you can afford. OtterlyAI Lite at $29, billed monthly, suits a small start.[1] Peec AI suits daily tracking on three models.[3] AthenaHQ Starter lists 11 models.[2]
Are there any free GEO tools available?
Yes. AthenaHQ's Essential plan is free with 300 credits.[2] ZipTie, Frase, Scrunch, Rankscale Pro and Goodie Core offer 7-day trials, and SE Ranking offers 14 days.[9][4][10][6][11][5] Google Search Console is free and includes AI Overviews and AI Mode traffic in its Web search type.[18]
What are the five tools of geography?
That question belongs to geography teaching, where "geo" means something else. GEO here means generative engine optimization software, which tracks how AI answer engines mention and cite a brand.
How many prompts should a GEO tool track?
Track enough prompts to cover the questions people type before they choose a provider. Among the fixed-prompt entry plans here, the range runs from 15 prompts on OtterlyAI Lite to 125 on Scrunch Core.[1][10]
Why do my own ChatGPT results differ from my GEO tool's?
ChatGPT and Perplexity personalise answers with stored information about you, your search history and your location.[8] A GEO tool runs neutral checks, and each answer can vary from run to run.[14] Your screen shows one personalised sample, while the tool shows a neutral trend.
Can Google Search Console track AI Overviews?
Partly. Google includes AI Overviews and AI Mode in the overall search traffic in Search Console's Performance report, within the Web search type.[18] Pair that data with a GEO tool if you need engine-by-engine answers outside Google.
Do GEO tools improve AI visibility on their own?
Mostly no, and Frase's own table says "AI Visibility does not auto-fix".[4] Frase, AthenaHQ and Goodie add agents or actions, but someone still decides what ships and earns outside sources.[4][2][11] At Searchmaxxed, the Managed Search Loop turns what our agents find into weekly releases on your Agentic Website.
What's the difference between GEO tools and AEO tools?
The labels overlap. Goodie calls its product "Full-Stack AEO", and Peec AI offers pricing for GEO agencies, yet both track prompts across AI engines.[11][3] At Searchmaxxed we run GEO and AEO as one job inside the Managed Search Loop. What is AI SEO explains how the terms fit together.
What should I do when a GEO tool shows competitors cited instead of me?
Check access first, because sites opted out of OAI-SearchBot won't appear in ChatGPT search answers.[19] We fix the page side on your Agentic Website and build outside sources through the Off-Page Source Layer.
Should I buy a GEO tool or hire a GEO agency?
Buy a tool if someone on your team has time to act on the data each week. Hire a team if the reports keep arriving and nothing ships. At Searchmaxxed, our agents feed the Managed Search Loop, and a person approves every change before it goes live. Let's talk pricing.
Which GEO tools track Google AI Mode?
Rankscale Pro, AthenaHQ Starter, Goodie Core, ZipTie's paid plans and SE Ranking's AI Search add-on track AI Mode.[6][2][11][9][5] Peec AI lets you choose it as one of three models.[3] OtterlyAI sells AI Mode as an extra add-on.[1]
