My picks for Semrush alternatives are SE Ranking for daily SEO, Ahrefs for links and SpyFu for ads.[1][2][3] I'd choose Moz for weekly checks and Mangools for solo research.[4][5] Keep Semrush if your team uses its keyword research, site audits and AI tracking together.[6][7]

I run Searchmaxxed. These are my choices by job, not an independent award or a hands-on accuracy ranking.

Compare the tier you'd buy. Ahrefs Starter and Lite have different allowances.[10][15] Moz Standard publishes the AI features described below; confirm Starter's inclusions before choosing its lower price.[14][4]

What does Semrush do, and when should you keep it?

Keep Semrush if you need keyword research, competitor analysis and site audits alongside AI tracking in one subscription.[6][7] Its SEO plan includes Position Tracking and Site Audit.[6] Starter adds a stated daily AI prompt allowance.[7]

  • What it does: Semrush combines keyword and competitor research with rank tracking and website checks.[6] Starter also includes AI visibility reports and an AI-ready Site Audit.[7]
  • Engines tracked: Starter's pricing page names Google Search, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, plus other engines. Confirm which features cover your chosen engine.[7]
  • Starting price: SEO costs $139.95/month; Starter costs $199/month.[8][16] The pricing page doesn't identify their currency code.
  • Free trial: Semrush advertises seven-day access to its marketing toolkits. Check the selected toolkit and checkout terms.[17]
  • What it cannot do: Starter's allowance doesn't cover unlimited sites or prompts: it includes five websites and 50 daily prompts.[7]
  • Best for: I'd keep Semrush when those jobs share an owner and the team uses them every week.

Before cancelling, list the reports and checks you'll need to rebuild. Compare how much work the switch saves against how much it creates.

1. SE Ranking: my pick for daily SEO and AI tracking

SE Ranking is my first suite-replacement pick for daily rank and AI tracking. Core includes 2,000 keywords and 100 prompts to track daily.[1] I would test it against the actual searches and sites your team manages.

  • What it does: Core includes keyword, competitor and backlink research, website audits and connections to GA, GSC, Matomo and Data Studio.[1]
  • Engines tracked: The AI Search add-on names AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity and ChatGPT. Core states five LLMs without naming all five.[9][18]
  • Starting price: Core displays $129/month or $103.20/month with annual billing.[1] The annual plan requires upfront payment; its currency code is absent.[19]
  • Free trial: The 14-day trial needs no credit card.[1] Its starter limits differ from the paid Core plan.[20]
  • What it cannot do: Core doesn't include the Agency Pack's white-label reporting. That add-on has annual billing.[9]
  • Best for: I'd shortlist it for a team that needs daily checks across SEO and AI answers.

Ask which AI features come with Core before adding AI Search. The page presents both included prompts and a separate add-on.[1][9] Compare the scope you need, including client reporting.

Ahrefs is my pick when backlink and competitor research lead the decision. Lite includes Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, Site Audit and Competitive Analysis.[2] I would choose the tier from the research workload, not the cheapest headline.

  • What it does: Ahrefs combines site, keyword and competitor research.[2] Standard adds Content Explorer and Batch Analysis to Lite's tools.[2]
  • Engines tracked: Brand Radar's index names AI Overviews, Perplexity, Gemini, ChatGPT, Copilot and AI Mode. Confirm your custom-tracking selection separately.[11]
  • Starting price: Starter costs $29/month; Lite costs $129/month.[10][15] Lite includes 750 tracked keywords and one user, with 1,000 credits per user.[15] Their price fields don't specify currency codes.
  • Free trial: Ahrefs Free gives website owners limited Site Explorer and Site Audit access. Treat it as limited free access.[21]
  • What it cannot do: Lite's small included AI quota doesn't replace a large tracking set. Extra checks and Brand Radar AI have separate prices.[15][22][23]
  • Best for: I'd shortlist Ahrefs for a marketer who spends much of the week investigating links and competing pages.

Lite's rank tracker updates weekly in the published comparison.[24] If daily Google ranking checks matter, test that requirement before choosing the plan.

3. SpyFu: my pick for competitor ad research

SpyFu is my pick for competitor ad and keyword research. Search Logistics describes PPC research, SEO research and rank tracking among its tasks.[3] For an Australian campaign, confirm country coverage and search for your actual competitors before subscribing.

  • What it does: SpyFu offers domain and keyword research alongside backlink searches.[25] Its current plans also include site auditing.[26]
  • Engines tracked: The pricing page mentions AI Brand Monitoring and ChatGPT integration, but doesn't provide a clear engine-coverage list.[13]
  • Starting price: Basic costs $39/month or $29/month with annual billing.[12] The price fields don't specify the currency code.
  • Free trial: SpyFu's pricing page confirms a 30-day money-back policy.[27] It doesn't confirm a free trial.
  • What it cannot do: Basic can't supply unlimited research results. Its comparison caps domain, keyword and backlink search results at 10,000.[25]
  • Best for: I'd test it for a small team researching the keywords and ads of its competitors.

Basic's audit allows 50,000 crawl pages per month, but only 500 pages per crawl.[26] A large monthly allowance won't help if your required crawl exceeds that second limit.

4. Moz Pro: my pick for weekly SEO and AI checks

Moz Pro is my pick for a team comfortable with weekly AI checks. Standard includes 150 tracked prompts across GPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Perplexity.[4] Check the keyword allowance too; prompt capacity alone doesn't settle the choice.

  • What it does: Standard includes three tracked sites, 300 tracked keywords and 400,000 crawled pages per month.[4] It also includes two AI content briefs monthly.[4]
  • Engines tracked: Standard names GPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Perplexity, with weekly prompt tracking.[4]
  • Starting price: Starter costs $49/month for one website, but its pricing paragraph doesn't state those AI inclusions.[14] Standard costs USD $99/month.[4]
  • Free trial: Moz links to a Medium-plan trial.[28] The official pricing page doesn't state its duration.
  • What it cannot do: Standard's weekly AI schedule doesn't meet a daily-check requirement. Pick the cadence your reporting needs.[4]
  • Best for: I'd choose it for a small team whose search decisions follow a weekly review.

Moz's Standard price and AI allowance belong together. Comparing Starter's fee with Standard's prompts would make the cheaper plan look like a different product.[14][4]

5. Mangools: my pick for solo keyword research

Mangools is my pick for solo keyword research with modest tracking needs. Basic includes keyword research, SERP analysis and 200 tracked keywords with weekly updates.[5] Ask how its research limits fit your working day.

  • What it does: Basic includes 100 keyword research requests per day, backlink data and site analysis.[5] Its bundle also includes AI Search Watcher PRO.[5]
  • Engines tracked: Mangools names OpenAI, Google AI Overviews and Claude, plus five other unnamed engines.[5]
  • Starting price: Basic shows $452.40 for annual billing.[5] Confirm the currency and monthly price at checkout.
  • Free trial: Mangools' pricing page confirms a 48-hour refund policy.[29] It lists no trial duration.
  • What it cannot do: Basic offers no extra seats and updates keyword ranks weekly. I'd test another plan for shared access or daily rankings.[5]
  • Best for: I'd shortlist Basic for one person researching keywords and checking a small ranking set.

The bundle displays 500 monitored AI prompts.[5] It doesn't make the AI sampling cadence clear. Ask for the update schedule before comparing that figure with daily or weekly prompt plans.

Which alternatives are cheaper than Semrush?

SpyFu Basic and Ahrefs Starter display lower dollar figures than Semrush SEO, but the plans cover different workloads.[12][10][30] Confirm the checkout currency before treating the difference as a saving.

Pricing source date: 6 October 2026. Annual-billing monthly figures describe that billing choice; they aren't month-to-month offers. Currency codes remain unspecified except where Moz states USD.

Seats and extra modules can change the bill. Semrush's additional users start at $45/month.[34] Ahrefs Brand Radar AI starts at $199/month, separate from the core plan's small prompt allowance.[22][15]

Watch introductory offers too. SpyFu Pro + AI displays $59 for the first month and $119/month thereafter.[35] Compare the ongoing price with the ongoing job.

Is there a free Semrush alternative?

Ahrefs Free is a free Semrush alternative for limited checks on your own website.[21] It provides restricted Site Explorer and Site Audit access.[21] Semrush also has a permanent free option, so you may not need to switch for occasional checks.[36]

Semrush Free includes one demo project and ten reports per day across its main tools.[36] It requires no credit card.[36] A demo project and a daily report cap serve a different job from running several client websites.

Moz offers limited free access to MozBar, Keyword Explorer and Link Explorer through a community account.[37] I'd start with those tools when testing occasional research needs.

Keep a permanent free account separate from a trial or refund policy. SE Ranking offers a 14-day trial; SpyFu offers a 30-day refund policy.[1][27] Neither is an unrestricted free replacement.

How to choose a Semrush alternative

Choose a Semrush alternative by testing your required jobs, plan limits and billing terms against your own site. I would use the same test for every candidate before cancelling the existing subscription.

  1. Name the job you're replacing. Separate keyword research, audits, links, ad research and AI tracking. Decide which reports you must keep.
  2. Check your market. Search for your services and real competitors. Test the countries, devices and languages you need. Save a few known examples for comparison.
  3. Write down both limits and schedules. Record websites, users, tracked keywords, crawl size and update frequency. Check per-crawl limits as well as monthly totals.
  4. Test AI coverage separately. Use the same prompts and locations. Check the actual answers and source links, then compare the sampling frequency.
  5. Take one finding through to a change. Find a real issue, assign it and fix it. Check how you will measure the change before choosing the subscription.

Ahrefs makes one prompt on one platform in one location count as one check.[23] Its extra-check packages also carry overage charges.[23] A headline prompt allowance needs its counting rules beside it.

Decide what the finding calls for. A crawl problem needs technical SEO work. A missing buying page needs a content strategy tied to the business's offers.

If the issue concerns AI answers, compare answer engine optimisation and generative engine optimisation. Our AI SEO explanation sets out how we join those checks with website work.

Where does Searchmaxxed fit?

Searchmaxxed fits when you want a team to run the work through our Managed Search Loop. We research, build and measure the changes. Choose software if you already have people ready to do those jobs.

We do agentic SEO. We build AI agents that connect to your whole Search Console and GA4. The agents read Google results, scrape competitor sites and check what AI answers say about you each week.

Our Managed Search Loop checks those findings against your plan and picks the next job. We build new pages, fixes, schema and internal links on your Agentic Website. Schema gives search engines a clear description of the page's facts. You own the site on GitHub and Vercel.

Our Off-Page Source Layer develops links, reviews, citations, press and mentions on other sites. Our link-building work belongs to that part of the job. A person approves each change before it goes live. Then the agents measure what happened and the loop picks the next job.

For example, suppose a service gets searches but your site lacks a page that explains it. We'd inspect the results and build that page. We'd connect it to related pages, check the live version and watch enquiries in GA4. External sources would support the same business facts where the plan calls for them.

I ran the research, pages and updates manually at Radiant Roof Repairs. Before Searchmaxxed, I built it from zero to more than A$1 million a year in revenue using SEO as the only marketing channel.

Searchmaxxed's Managed Search Loop connects site data, research, page work, source work, human approval and measurement
A person approves public changes; measurement feeds the next job.

Our SEO service runs this work across the website and external sources. Choose local SEO when the scope centres on local searches and your business profile.

Our packages and inclusions cover different amounts of work:

  • Local Search: service pages, business-profile management, reviews, local links, citation cleanup and local AI checks.
  • Growth System: 30 page releases each month, technical fixes, schema, internal links, source work and AI tracking.
  • Agentic Search Engineering: 50 page releases each month, comparison and industry pages, digital PR, link campaigns and AI tracking.
  • Custom & Enterprise: multiple markets, dedicated engineering, custom reporting and original research where the agreed scope needs them.

The Agentic Website Full Build includes research, site planning, design and measurement. Agentic Migration moves a site into an owned setup for ongoing search work. The AI SEO Audit identifies gaps, fixes and the plan.

Frequently asked questions

Is there anything better than Semrush?

Yes, for a particular job. I'd choose SE Ranking for daily SEO and AI checks, or Ahrefs when link research leads the work.[1][2] Keep Semrush when your team uses its combined research, audits and AI tracking.[6][7]

What are the top 3 SEO tools?

My first three candidates are Semrush, Ahrefs and SE Ranking for broad SEO work. Each offers research, audits and tracking, with different allowances.[6][7][2][15][1] Choose the plan against your workload; this is my shortlist, not a measured universal ranking.

Which is better, Semrush or Ubersuggest?

I'd choose Semrush for a team combining keyword research, site audits and daily AI prompt tracking.[6][7] Search Logistics describes Ubersuggest as covering audits, competitor analysis, keyword research and basic backlink data.[38] Check Ubersuggest's current official price and limits before choosing it on price.

Which is better, Moz or Semrush?

I'd choose Moz Standard for weekly AI checks, or Semrush Starter when daily prompt tracking matters.[4][7] Moz Standard includes 150 prompts; Semrush Starter includes 50 daily prompts.[4][7] The larger allowance and the faster schedule answer different needs.

Is Ahrefs cheaper than Semrush?

Ahrefs Lite displays $129/month and Semrush SEO displays $139.95/month.[15][8] Their price fields don't identify currency codes. Compare checkout currency, required tiers and extra modules before calling the difference a saving.

How much does Semrush cost per month?

Semrush's official page displays SEO at $139.95/month and Starter at $199/month on monthly billing.[8][16] Annual-billing displays are $117.33/month and $165.17/month respectively.[31][32] The pricing text doesn't confirm the currency code; check it before subscribing.

Why is Semrush so expensive, and is it worth it?

Semrush is worth considering if you use several of its research, audit and AI-tracking jobs every week. Its plans combine those tools.[6][7] I would compare the full workload and replacement effort before judging value from one monthly fee.

What are the limitations of Semrush Free?

Semrush Free includes one demo project and ten reports per day across its main tools.[36] It suits occasional testing within those limits. Ahrefs Free offers limited checks on your own site if that better matches the job.[21]

Which is more accurate, Ahrefs or Semrush?

I can't name an accuracy winner from pricing pages. Test both against the same known pages and keywords, then check differences against your site's own records. Decide which errors would change your work before choosing a subscription.

Can an AI visibility tool replace an SEO suite?

A dedicated AI tracker can replace the monitoring job you give it; test your keyword, link and audit needs separately. Semrush Starter and SE Ranking Core combine SEO work with AI checks.[7][1] Ahrefs prices Brand Radar AI separately too.[22]

Does Searchmaxxed replace Semrush?

Searchmaxxed runs the research and implementation for you. Our Managed Search Loop connects site data with search results and competitor checks, then selects the next change. You can run the work yourself with software if you have the people and time.
